  1. I try (and I use that word loosely here, as it doesn't always happen!) to practice the things that my mind wants to avoid! It's all to easy to practice what you know you're good at but practicing stuff that you're weaker on is hard lol. Tim x
  2. Great topic! How about: The Manual of Karate - E.J. Harrison Code of the Samurai - Thomas Cleary The Art of Shaolin Kung Fu - Wong Kiew Kit And already mentioned but worth another go: The Art of War - Sun Tzu Tim x
  3. Hi Rw, I had something similar going from Karate to Kickboxing. I also struggled with the kicking to begin with and also the sparring as I had only done point stop but kickboxing was continuous, very frustrating : ) As mentioned, follow through with your kicks rather than snapping them back. it's almost like you're dragging the leg round from the hip. Hope that makes sense? Keep practicing and I'm sure you will adapt in time. Tim x
  4. Congratulations Alex! I'm new here, but very much looking forward to reading your stuff. You've come highly recommended. Tim x
  5. I just wanted to say a big thank you to someone! I run a YouTube channel on Martial Arts & Fitness and when I looked at my analytics it appears quite a few views came from karateforums. I don't know if it was a good or a bad recommendation or if someone shared a video or something else but thank you! Obviously I found you and have joined this great community.
  6. Hello guys, I'm new and really enjoyed reading all of your thoughts on this issue. Mainly because I have been trying to find ways of helping people get into martial arts training. In my opinion it doesn't matter what martial you train in as long as you train and enjoy it! I teach regularly and have written an interactive book on kickboxing that links into a YouTube channel. People learn in different ways so some may prefer to have a book to read and videos to watch as a start, or as an addition to regular training with an instructor. Now, I know that you can never beat training with a real life instructor but I think for a lot of people it can be rather daunting going into a new environment for the first time and have no clue what to do! Thank you for a great forum where we can discuss these things!
  7. Hello! I have just joined today and have joined the newbie karate forums club as well : )
