  1. Speed is power, the faster you deliver the more powerful is the effect. Exactly! If I throw a 38 caliber bullet at you with my arm it will bounce off and you will laugh at me. If I fire it at about 850 feet per second it kills you. Technique, Focus, Accuracy, Speed, Power! (You may know the order a little differently, but power is last because it is a result of the others.)
  2. Have you tried the doggie paddle? Seriously, those are two entirely different movements and use your muscle groups in very different ways.
  3. I prefer forms myself. I believe they have help my stances immensely, but I always feel stiff when sparring. I do well sparring, but I feel like I'm not flowing enough and not quick enough. Ok, I'm not in my 20's any more ( or even my 40s), but I am always trying to work on my fluidity. The rigidity of forms may actually be keeping me from being more fluid. Just a thought.
  4. Wow, thanks for all the great replies. It looks like I'm on the right path here with the rest of you. I've bee sticking my head over a bowl of steaming water to heal the stye (it's working) and I bought a 3pack of headbands to wear in class as well as some soft cloths to keep in my gi to wipe with. I spoke to my instructor and he is fine with me using the towels in class. Thanks everyone!!
  5. Lately I've noticed that I am sweating from the head more and it's running into my eyes a lot. I wipe it out, dab my face on my sleeve. . . Now I have a stye in my right eye and I had an eyelash way up under my eyelid that the eye doctor had to get out. All this has kept me out of training this week. I'm just curious if anyone else has had sweat related eye issues.
  6. I just found your forum and I am looking forward to reading lots of great discussions on MA topics. I'll do my best to add positive and useful information where I can. I have studied Japanese and now Korean martial arts since the late 80's. Littleford65
