  1. We'll just send our boards to you in Phoenix during the summer, Aodhan! Hmmmm... never thought about the sauna Niel0092. Too bad we couldn't use a faster process like a microwave! And no, I haven't tried that yet...
  2. Dragon Mike, the problem I had with some of the lumber yards, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc., is the quality of the boards, moisture content, and cost. Some of the so called untreated boards seem like they are treated. I guess low heat for drying wet boards! For some reason the boards in the dojangs are different... Has anyone dried wet boards in an oven before? Thanks for the web address Aodhan. We cut our boards to 1"x 12"X12" boards for adults/juniors 12"x6" for pee-wees; 1/2"x12"x12" for junior demo from the lumber yards. The 1/2" are more expensive. Our Home Depot charges after so many cuts! Amazing isn't it! Hey, time is $$$! LOL! But, I did get that look that you're talking about, Iceman! I had to perform hand breaks during a demo and it was during the summer and it was hot, humid and raining outside. The doors were open to the gym and I tell you, those boards were EVIL!!
  3. Hello Everyone! I know that most of us that have trained in the Korean schools are doing a lot of board breaking. I called a TKD school about who their board supplier was (since they were local) and they said that they purchase their boards from Korea. Wow! That's a long way! I know the boards are very good boards too. I know that I'm not going back to our local lumber yard! Does anyone know of a Korean breaking board supplier on the East Coast so that I can buy in bulk? Thanks!
  4. I know Iceman said just one tecnique, but that's pretty tough! I LOVE the 540, too, Orion!! Woo Hoo!!!!
  5. I like jump spin kicks in particular - back, side, hook. I also like axe kicks.
  6. Check out the Parks and Recreation Programs in your area (I recall someone mentioning a school there in Belair on the boards but I may be wrong). There's a Master Choi in Belcamp. He's really good with children and adults. Go and watch a class or two and speak to him. I watched his classes when I was passing by and he's pretty cool! His site is: https://www.elitetoma.com. I think KoreanTiger30's instructor knows him. Good luck!
  7. Welcome to the forums! Yes, grrlz can kick butt!
  8. Congratulations on your promotions!! Almost there!!!!
  9. Hi GreenDragon! It's not uncommon to find a mixed martial arts school these days. It can actually be an advantage to you. It really depends on what your training goals are as well -- self-defense and fitness, competition, etc. I would watch a few classes to see how classes are run. A good teacher can make your learning experience fun and enjoyable. See if you can take a trial period. Be sure to ask questions too. Good Luck!
  10. Yes, I'm a lucid dreamer. The weird thing is that I can put myself right back into a lucid dream state. This doesn't happen all the time though. Sometimes I can achieve this through meditation. I'm sure there are a lot of people on this board who think that I'm weird! LOL! If I don't focus properly it puts me into a sleep paralysis state where I can't breath and takes me a couple of seconds to get out of it. I'm sure weird, hey? Neat site LucidArtist!
  11. I competed in the Can-Am, PKL, NASKA, NBL, and WAKO circuits over the years. Did the AAU Karate & TKD thing, too. I liked competing in strictly "traditional" Korean and Japanese tournaments. I haven't competed in several years though. Is anyone out there a former member of DKT Force One Team? I remember having to compete with them at tournaments. A fellow classmate was a member of the Sport Karate International in the early 90's.
  12. LOL! But seriously, when you have to use athletic tape on your skin, you definitely don't want any hair! OUCH! But some of the grapplers I know do shave for the reasons of breaking out of holds, etc.
  13. I fenced in college, too, and I loved it! I did foil and epée. You should check out https://www.usfencing.org, https://www.fencing.net, and https://www.fencingfootage.com.
  14. I agree with you on selling belt rank! We used contracts to make a two-way agreement -- the teacher teaches and the student makes the commitment to come to his regularly scheduled classes to be taught. Our students were tested on all their forms, basics, self-defense, weapons, etc. for their black belt test. You had to know your stuff... I have seen too many schools using contracts with promising students their black belts in 1-3 years... and the quality of instruction is not there either. Sad.
