  1. Hello, i'm moving to Rome (Italy) pretty soon and i was wondering if someone here knew about some good kyokushinkai dojos in the area, i searched on google and found nothing promising. I've been practicing karate for a year, the dojo here in Sicily focus heavily on conditioning and sparring which i found pretty exciting, i hope i can find something similiar when i move out.. Thanks in advance
  2. Hello and welcome if you're looking for a tougher karate, maybe focused more on combat i would advise you kyokushinkai, been training for 2 months now and atleast in my school there is a huge focus on sparring, combat and conditioning. Some kumite can be really challenging, closest thing you can get to a real fight in my opinion. Obviously i'm still a newbie so i don't pretend to know much just giving my opinion ! Good luck brother
  3. thanks to everybody for the advices really helpful
  4. Hello guys, we recently started doing kumite in our dojo, at the end of every lesson (like the last 15 minutes) and it has been very, very tough. Against other men it's very hard cause you feel every punch/kick and it feels almost impossible to break through their guard, at least for me, i've tried doing feints, bouncing on the side etc but i just cant break their defense! It's surely cause i'm new to fighting and i have to get the hang of it but i'm still enjoying it a lot so far. I still don't know how to fight against women in kumite cause i'm afraid to hurt them, so i only attack them with kicks (still learning the proper technique) and i try to parry the majority of their attacks. any advices for a white belt ? Osu!
  5. thank you Sensei! i will mark those words just had my first round of kumite yesterday with a brown (almost black) belt, he was very patient and explained me alot of things to take in consideration during a spar/fight, really cool guy he sent me ko twice but i don't mind really, it strengthens the body! OSU
  6. Hello guys! I choose Kyokushinkai for the harder conditioning and full body contact, i started one week ago and so far it has been devastating for mind and body, the training and the conditioning is so hard that after a lesson i can barely move, but it feels good, i feel like im doing the right thing and i'm improving my (weak) body. When i first entered the dojo i thought i was gonna be alright cause of 1 year of gym experience, boy i was wrong... after roughly 30min i had to stop and sit down, i was completely out, couldn't do anything even tho the other members were encouraging me to keep up, i just had to halt and sit down! The thing that most impressed me was the condition of the guys in there, even low belts like blue belt (i know its not that low but still) were so fast and so strong. sorry for the wall of text and broken english! if you have any advices for a new starter i would appreciate it ! OSU!
  7. Thanks for all the support guys, i really appreciate it
  8. thanks for the insight, i will proceed to check each dojo and see how they focus on the fighting/self defence part
  9. Hello guys, I have a decision to make, there are two karate schools In my town and I gotta choose which one is the best for me. I have read a lot of opinions about both styles of karate but I'm still not sure whether people are talking just for talking or saying the truth. What I know right now is that these two styles are very different, Shotokan is and old traditional martial art and its used nowadays as a competitive sport with points, somewhat like fencing while kyokushinkai is about full contact and body conditioning (KO in competitions) Which one is the best for self defense and why? Thank you
