White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. K-1 is trying to expand its popularity in the heavyweights. If your looking for some good technical fights you should check out K-1 MAX (middleweights); there aren’t as many Sumo wrestlers and NHF linemen playing there. I know these fights can be hard to find though: in the US the middleweights aren’t marketed at all.
  2. Hey Haley88, Perhaps you'd be interested in checking out some other flashy fighters. Take a look at Andy Hug in some of the old K-1 matches. Genki Sudo is another flashy guy you might want to check out.
  3. Yeah that was bad luck for Chavez: Who know what would of happened had his right hand been in play. I also found Foreman's commentary rather funny at times.
  4. Well I'd think that training for Pride and K-1 are too different things. Doing both successfully would take a lot of effort.
  5. Really, Hoost vs Bonjasky, that should be interesting. I’m more excited about the K-1 J Max tournament coming up. I’m disappointed Genki Sudo is not in it though, he looked very good his last fight.
  6. Sounds interesting; tell me more. (in english please) Did a quick search on the web and found this site(in Korean): http://www.kokbest.com/
  7. Has any one taken a look at Bas Rutten's big book of Combat? It looks neat, but the two books cost a bit of change; so I'd like to know what others think of it.
  8. Has anyone here come across any good MA books then? I've read some books, but they tend to be on the not so useful side.
  9. There are a couple Shaolin Do's here in Austin, Texas. I don't know very much about their curriculum, but it does not seem too much different from most of the other martial art schools here. I do like how they seem to do a lot of social things together; A few years ago a group went to train in China for a bit; they had a team participate in the dragon boat race here (and they won); they play "shaolin soccer" sometimes and I think monthly they do community service too. A name is just a name, but it may be good for marketing to the masses.
  10. Wow. I find this a very good point. I'm not sure about anything else, but a 5th dan should be able to promote someone to the same level. What about those who feel they've gone beyond their teacher? And what if the teacher agrees and feels the same way? Hmm.
  11. I too have also only seen two of these tournaments (on VCDs from some guy in Singapore) and I also saw a Sanda fighter in the K-1 world max 2002 tournament. From what I’ve seen, in general the Sanda fighters have poor form in punches and poor conditioning. Something I think would be interesting would be a Sanda tournament of Sanda fighters vs MMA fighters. Sure the Sanda rules would be restrictive against mixed martial artists, but I’d venture to guess that Sanda would not do well (especially if judged by neutral judges).
  12. I just read the news on another site a couple minutes ago. This is a big loss for Fairtex, kickboxing and the martial arts in general. I’ve only seen one of his fights but he fought well enough to make an impression. Sad.
  13. K-1 is a fun sport to follow (sorry, but too much grappling makes me sleepy). In the US I’m beginning to think they try to find the slowest and most inactive K-1 fights of the year, then air them on ESPN 2. Hey does anyone out there follow the middleweight K-1 tournament? I find those fights the neatest but they don’t seem to get as much attention as the heavy guys do.
  14. I currently like Paul Spadafora. He’s a lightweight and I’ve only seen him box a couple of times, but he seems to play a defensive style very well and I wish I could dodge punches as often as he.
  15. ? No they don’t run? I assure you they do. The guys I’m talking about were on full track scholarship at the university I went to, and that’s hard to do if you don’t run.
