  1. Hey guys I test for purple belt in a week, and also in a tournament. Wish me luck!
  2. It is the same for me. My own struggles keep me going. It's only been a year for me, so I have a long way to go. I have some "handicaps", if you will. Vision impaired, episodes of vertigo that hit without warning, arthritis in a few places, and much older than most beginners but I know I'm an inspiration to many and it's a test of myself and my own determination and drive to make it to the next goal. I've achieved the goal I set for this time period of 1 year, and that motivates me to keep going as well. One goal at a time.

    Question

Are there any other Ketsu-Ka Karate schools in the country besides CT?? Is there anyone here on this forum who is practicing this style?
  4. Hello and welcome! I remember walking into the dojo and stating I was just there for exercise. I had taken martial arts before...Tae Kwon Do years ago, and a little Tang Soo Do as well, years ago. I knew it was good exercise and so wanted to join for that purpose. I was not interested in fighting or earning belts. I have been going to my school for a year now, 2 to 3 times a week, and have progressed to green belt. I've done a demonstration in town and hope to test for purple soon. I guess I "got involved". I really loved it my first time and kept going. The classes are tough and I wondered if I had made a mistake signing up for this. I am a bit older than most of the students, but at a recent testing, I noticed many older women who were black belts, even Grand Masters. I'm sure they started young, but it gives me hope.
  5. I've had an interest in Krav Maga, but there's no school near me. Right now I have become involved in Ketsu Ka and like it very much. I think Krav mega is a good thing to learn though IMHO.
  6. Wow! Massage at your place Titanium? Nice! We do 15 minute warm up stretching then go right into drills for about 20 minutes or so, finishing with push ups, sit-ups and other exercises; then the katas, then the ju jitsu portion of the class followed by sparring. There are breaks in between for a few minutes. Total class time is an hour and a half. It's a workout! Gets more intense when there's a tournament coming up.
  7. Thanks. I found out about something called Ivomec. It's used on farm animals but can be used on dogs. Also diatinacious earth may be good too. Thanks for commenting.
  8. Thanks Patrick! That's why I posted it. It WAS under "general topics" not necessarily related to martial arts. I think I may have found something anyway, but if there are any pet owners here who have some advice to share, I will gladly receive it.
  9. Question: IDK where else to post this, so I'll post here. A friend of mine just acquired a dog. Turns out the dog is positive for heart worm. Anything she can do via natural remedies? Or low cost vet care in the TN area? She cannot afford the regular vet's fee for treatment. Thanks.
  10. There is very little, or actually none....on the internet regarding Ketsu-Ka. I cannot find any videos of techniques or katas. I practice mine every day...I have a sheet that lists them. Committed to memory so far are katas 1-6. I would like to see something on the web to help me review when I'm not in class. Is there anything? Anything at all? Sensei was right. He said there isn't anything on the web on our art. I guess the feeling is...come to the school. I'm just looking for more review for myself, to practice techniques when I'm not in class.
  11. Thanks for the welcome. It's great to be here!
  12. I am brand new to this forum. I have been involved with martial arts off and on for over 30 years. I started with Tae Kwon Do, and was a yellow belt in that. I had my kids involved in Tang Soo Do for a while until they lost interest. I am now involved in Ketsu-Ka and like it very much. Earned my green belt not too long ago. My motto...you're never too old!
