I feel you brother, I am the same way be it men or women. I try my best not to give Hard strikes. But there are times when the other person strikes are hard, it’s like you wanna give them a hard hit as well.

Question About Being Promoted
sd.bombon replied to sd.bombon's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
WOW!! I am definitely proud to share, our Sensie spars with our high Belts from time to time full contact and anyone who dares to spar with him. Who really wants a challenge and those prepping for competition. He even encourages good sparring between ranks, thou closely monitors to avoid any injury. Thou, of course he takes caution and makes sure he know what you are getting yourself into and if you are hurt it’s your fault and you really wanted this so you can learn. Guess, on muuaah side I just really wanna go over and beyond of the Belt am about to get. So no one questions the belt and rank I am at. So am planning again the skills first for that rank then get promoted. -
Thanks guys for your awesome responses, really appreciate your patience with me. It’s just that as much as possible, I want him to see the effort I exert of learning things in advance. 😇😇😇 Finally, per your recommendation I asked him and he just smiled. He explained that the rank is always worn on the right side. Since the left side is where you put the name of your organisation which is kept close to the heart which is on the left. Then I asked him about pictures of Mas Oayama I saw online, why some photos show rank on his left. I immediately apologize and meant no offense, was just curious. He smiled and it’s and that is a good question. Mentioned perhaps the way the picture was taken it inverted the image.

Have not reached that point yet, since don’t have stripe yet. I also think Sensie gives me too much credit as being too observant and thinks I might have picked it up by now. I did noticed them wearing it on the right. Thou, when I researched online some say it was on the left. So am confused, have not asked my Sensie outright.

Cheers!! I have been trying to search online, but alas have not found anything firm and concrete. I wanna be able to do thing properly when I reach 9th kyu. Where do you put the stripe of the belt. Left or right? Thank you in advance.

Yeah, which is a good tool to help with hearing and repeating. Kinda hard to just listen so fast.
-
Thank you!! But would you be able to make it a bit easier, by giving exact pronunciation of each word? Just wondering.
-
I tried it's just too fast.
-
Any tips and hints? I wanna learn how to say it in Japanese and memorize it. Anyone here can post how to pronounce it properly word for word which I can then memorize. Somehow I have the English version down and just also wanna learn the Japanese version. Please help.

Cheers!! I just wanna get your guys opinion when it comes to foot work. Personally I believe it's very important, specially when it comes to stamina in fighting. Thou, I am finding it hard to find a partner who will exert the effort in practicing only foot work and so chasing practices. Cause right now the equation I have in my head is to practice foot work first, once you have it down and can chase someone down by muscle memory that's when you can incorporate punches and kicks. Maybe do it while doing a heavy bag since you know you can already do it while chasing down an opponent. As they say always practice basic, well I think this is the most basic of things. Am I in the right train of thought. As this will allow you to move out of the way of the strikes of your opponent. Not just stand their and duke it out with them.

Question About Being Promoted
sd.bombon replied to sd.bombon's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Thank you guys for all your wonderful responses, you have hardened my resolve with the decision I have made. The formula I have come up within my head to get my promotion is as follows. *if I am to get promoted to 9th kyu. -my knowledge of skills and terminology should be of that of an 8th kyu. -kumite should be able to handle myself with higher levels. -stamina level should be sublime Least now I know it's only right to do so and it ain't about thinking to high of myself. It's just that when I go to a certain level, I wanna be able to do all things right. Like the simple act of making sure to tie my belt properly. Which am proud to say I really took the time to learn the proper way of doing so no matter how long it took me and how many tries I had to do it. Am really glad to have found this forum, as one of my boss at work said. It is good to have knowledge from work, but it is always good as well to have mentors outside as it gives you a different perspective as always. So am pretty sure in the coming future will have tons of questions here and there. Our Branch Chief/Sensie from our branch is cool with it thou, take your promotion at your own time. Am glad, thou now I have to find ways to respectfully decline the other sensie from the other branch from time to time. -
Question About Being Promoted
sd.bombon replied to sd.bombon's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Quality definitely there, can be seen with all level of kyus and our black belts. I know in myself that in some aspects of the promotion I can nail it and pass. But there are certainly some thing I personally wanna achieve first before moving a rank to 9th. Like stamina, being able to do one session without being winded, flexibility and also maybe win a tournament or two. Appreciate all the responses, will definitely take this into mind next time the offer is made maybe our branch chief makes the offer. -
Hello!! Finally after a year not being able to train, am now back at our dojo starting from scratch. Stamina easily depleted, but forms are still there specially when following in Kata. I am currently 10 Kyu in kyokushin. When I came for the promotion, I saw a lot of my previous friends were far off from where we started 10 kyu were now 6th kyu. Which I don't mind, then one of our sensie from another branch kept on encouraging me to take the promotion. Since I have good form. Hmmm for me am not ready and won't be for a long time. I just wanna get your guys opinion, when should you get your promotion? How will you know when you are ready? Should you take promotion when encouraged by your seniors and sensie? Is there a number of months you should wait before you get your promotion? Should I focus on skill or belt? Cause I have been reading online it is important to be a black belt not have a black belt. Are belts even important in kyokushin? Please enlighten me where should I focus? Thank you in advance.

Cheers!! I am from the Philippines; am currently training Kyokushin. Have been training for a good number of months now. Am currently a 10th kyu. Originally, i joined to lose weight and look good. However since seeing my senpais and sensei comepete and really take everything 110% seriosuly they have inspired me to push my limits and possibly join in competitions as well later on. I am excited to be an active member on this forum. Perchance i can also learn here how to become a good Martial Artist and learn from experienced Martial Artist as well when it comes to other training techniques and how to push myself further and motivate myself. Thank you all in advance for any guidance you might share.
