  1. Are there any good books or web sites that go into detail on nerve strikes/attacks? I have a basic understanding of the basic target areas but I am looking for something that goes into more detail. Like how deep the nerve is, can you use a grab attack and what are the likely effects of the attack. Anyone?
  2. With a set-up like that they are out to make money but that doesn't mean they are phoney. If you like the instructors and can afford it then go for it. You have to be in deceint sized city to have a place like that which means that you have options.
  3. It would be good for a light build but it really depends what you want to take a MA for. For learning quick selfe defence techniques I would go for Krav Maga or Jujitsu. Mok Gar will be a long term comittment to gain the full benefit from the art. Here is a web sight I found on it. http://www.mok-garkungfu.co.uk/
  4. Will do. I will have to see all of the insructors, what level they are and how they teach. Any martial art can be good for self defence if taught the right way and with the right attitude... Even TKD
  5. Then wack yourself in the head with the nearest handy phone book and think about it until you understand. Your attitude affects how you experience life. You choose your attitude and out look on life (no one chooses it for you and no external event that happens around you or too can affect how you view the world unless you choose to let it). If you didn't understand the story or the above explanations then no one will be able to expalin it to you. You will just have to ponder it for however long it takes for the answer to come.
  6. What is this new energy called? I would be interested in looking it up. Glen Morris wrote a book called "Path Notes of an American Ninja Master" that covers a lot of information on Ki and it's uses. He has attained a high level in Ninpo and Chi Kung. After reading his book I am throughly convinced that he did too many drugs in his youth but he has been training with the right people and has some good information. He goes over good meditations for developing Ki and martial applications of Ki. It's worth a look...
  7. If everything else is equal then stronger, faster, smarter always beats weaker, slower, dumber! When it comes down to it the stronger spirit wins...
  8. War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. --John Stewart Mill-- A young man who does not have what it takes to perform military service is not likely to have what it takes to make a living. --John F. Kennedy-- The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his. --George Patton-- The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave... --Patrick Henry--
  9. I don't know anything about Kali (thought it was a Hindu god) but club like objects are everywhere (beer bottle anyone?) Small knives are easy to carry and conceal. Blades 2 1/2 inch and less are legal to carry just about everywhere in the USA and can kill just as easly as a 12" blade. If you knife or club someone make sure you are right and can articulate how you thought the ther other guy intended to cause you great bodly harm or death. Also, scream for help like a little girl as you kill him for the benefit of any potential witnesses.
  10. I guess I will have to ask the local Aikido instructor what kind of akido he teaches. What is NHB sparring?
  11. I have two questions about combat effective Aikido. One, I have heard that it takes up to ten years of Aikido training to be able to use it in a fight. Is that true, how long does it take (average) before you can use it? Two, is there anyone on the forum that has used Aikido in a fight? How did it work and what happened?
  12. lol... I lived in Yakima for a couple of years (Selah actually). There isn't much there in the way of martial arts. There is a guy in Yakima by the name of Mike Terry who, last I heard, was 2nd degree in Ninpo Taijitsu. Ninpo is known for use of Ki but I don't know how much he will be able to teach you at his level. Not sure if he is still there but look him up in the phone book. If you are serious I 'm sure he would love to practice on you . Last I was heard he didn't have a dojo but that may have changed.
  13. It's a small town of 50 thousand, small compaired to the the places I have lived before. 10 years is a long wait for the pay off. What draws people to Aikido?
  14. The difference is that Jujitsu is a combative art (how to kill in combat) and Judo is a combative sport(like boxing or wrestling where the idea is not to hurt your opponent). Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo, wanted to lead more people to "TheWay" and so he took the really dangerous moves out of Jujitsu and called it a sport. Then to make it more appealing and so everyone could feel special he added the colored belt system that we all know and love. Before Jigoro you were a white belt untill you were a black belt. Some instructors teach Judo to be effective in the street but most do not. I was lucky enought to have an instructor that taught combat Judo. Then again he had a back ground in Jujitsu. If you want to know how to fight then take Jusitsu. If you like tourament competition then take Judo.

  16. It's so hard to remember that is about half of what I did in Judo class. Hundreds of submission holds while I was a white belt. Then again, I was a white belt for quite a while...
  17. After moving to a new town I decided to check out the local martial arts schools. I found two that I have never heard of. Have any of you heard of them and what have you heard of them? Sanzyuryu Jujitsu and Jukido
  18. The Kenpo is an off shoot of Ed Parker's. Everyone says that Aikido takes a long time to become effective. What is a long time? 1,2,5 or 10 years? Has anyone ever heard of Sanzyuryu Jujitsu?
  19. Hello everyone! While looking for a school I stumbled upon karateforums and thought I would give it a post. First, my background. In High School I took 2 years of Shotokan Karate. In college I took 4 years of Judo and 2 years of Ninpo Taijitsu. I then got a job that allowed no time for martial arts. I spent a few years as a firearms instructor for law enforcement. I would say that I have the equivalent to a blackbelt in combat pistol jitsu . Now I have the time but I am in a small town that doesn't offer much. I am looking for a combat effective martial art but I want to avoid the extra hard styles as I am 31 years old and want to avoid long term damage to my joints and other things... No sports, TKD and Judo are out. Here is what my town has to offer. Aikido, Kenpo, Case Kajukenbo, and Sanzyuryu Jujistu. Can anyone tell me what Sanzyuryu Jujitsu is? I have never heard of it before. I am leaning towards Aikido. Anyone have a thought on the subject?
