  1. Ok then Mayur we will have a forum where everyone agrees and no one has an opinion of their own yes? Wont that be fun in fact if we all agree why not close the whole thing all together. Personally ive got nothing against anyone and i cant see why people cant argue and still be friends as they are when they agree. If you think about it this is the only way to progress. I have changed my mind a bit having read some peoples arguments which is a good thing as i am open minded and i hope others have done the same. If we all agreed then we would not get anywhere.
  2. Hi AGKK_Karateka You put all that so well. I agree with EVERYTHING you said. Nice one To Grunt Your Club sounds good but you are in America yes? The standard is much lower here in London, England.
  3. Alot of questions and good ones so i will answer them in order so its clear. Yes its dilution that bothers me. Its not the old ways so much as i think its impossible to have a system that does not evolve. If it stands still it should die. I am concerned more with the whole point of the system in the first place. I like the idea of Karate that started as a system of defence in its time and that it must have changed constantly to adapt to new threats and so it should continue to do so. In fact i do not see why Karate should be all that similar to its origin if change is required. The aspect being diluted i belive is the mentality. The progress Karate makes is verging on the insane with its new ways of dealing with multiple attackers, all this v shape rubbish and so on. The dilution in styles due to merging is natural as if you use a technique on me i have never seen before and it works i will use it if i know how no matter where it comes from. If people start their own form fair enough as long at is for the right reason. I see the dilution of mental attitude to MA starting when it came to the west for predictable reasons i.e. money making. We should never continue for the sake of tradition apart from the mind set thats all and keeping it real. Its not just Karate for me that is going bad its all MA just about. I have most respect for things Like BJJ although i have not done it as that is the correct mentality. Develop the system to defeat all others however you do it. Witht regards to doing something aboout it i cant change the way of life of the west but i can follow MA the way it was meant to be. I agree with mixing styles. I agree with training to fight and win. Taking part means nothing. You all use quotes heres mine. "Winning isn't everything but coming second is nothing."
  4. I agree with JerryLove. Coming from A Muay Thai background forget the highkicks. I have sparred with TKD guys all black belts and i just love it when they start their fancy kicking stuff after they told me how goosd they are and they end up on the floor in 10 secs. ARE HIGH KICKS DYING UMMM MAYBE THE QUESTION IS "IS TKD DYING"
  5. Yeah Kensai I like Karate even though i do Thai Boxing. I did Karate for 2 years but changed to thai boxing because it is so diluted. I dont think i have knocked Karate though. Ive got a lot of respect for most styles providing they have some real back ground. I started this topic and called it whats the point in doing kARATE because most but not all of the people on this forum are the very people diluting it. If that offends people then good. I hope it does and they leave their clubs and their instructors stop teaching and wasting peoples time with aerobics leasons instead of Karate. I know this wont offend those that train at REAL karate clubs so ignore this.
  6. And one more thing Kensai why go on about lineage and rubbish like that. I can have my opinion regardless of lineage it just seems obvious to me. Perhaps because in the west most people inderstand so little about history and if you knew a bit more you might be a bit more respectful of the system itself.People who use Karate other than for what it was intended are usually out to make money and thats just plain wrong beyond covering what they need to get by.
  7. Yeah nice one Samurai_steel I agree, why do we have to constantly dilute everything until everyone can cope with it. Whats the point ... its meant to be hard not nice and comfortable.
  8. Your a weapon wow!!!!! I agree with your first point though Karate can be everything it is everywhere. I hear Karate is being used for treating the mentally ill and insane too..
  9. KENSAI has "Stepped in" every body make way.. Kensai forget about about your 4th and 10th Kyu. You should not throw your rank around. You have no idea who i am. I have already said what i think. Go to Japan and train and when you get there tell them your not interested in self defence, you only want to get fit, their culture is only a passing interest and you might not turn up if your mates want to go out or there is a good film on. See what they say.
  10. Yes you wont be laughing when those kids are beatin you senceless ha ha
  11. Well Grunt, I agree with everything you say and thats my point nobody else seems to get it. I used to do Karate and now do Thai Boxing but i still love Karate. This is why i left, guess the frustration lives on. Im being harsh to get the strongest reactions so i can see how people really feel.
  12. I see almost everyone does sparring in one form or another but some talk about things with multiple attackers and unusual scenarios like fighting on roof tops. Is this part of Karate or are the instructors making this up. If its made up should they be teaching this or is this progress?
  13. Mikelw you are confusing me man you agree then disagree?
  14. Yeah i agree remember to keep them off balance by moving them so its harder for them to shoot and dont forget you can fold in some nice elbows from the clinch too.
  15. Fair enough I see like most westerners we favour using our hands. In thailand its the feet or legs. Games like tag are played with the feet by kids and not with hands
  16. You need to read his timing and what he does. Most people if he is a kicker kick with the left then the right and back again and are predictable. You need to catch him on the half beat between kicks and move fast and go for it. kick his supporting leg and he will go down like a sack of potatoes. If you cant low kick round kick.
  17. Thais dont kick trees they kick bags. You have to be dumb to kick walls thats just plain stupid and if your instructor promotes that then he is a nob and you should leave.
  18. Wear head gear. It wont do harm and it might help. If nothing it will stop your face getting cut up. Nothing macho about not wearing one. Only draw back is it feels a bit weird and you loose a bit of vision. Be safe if you are worried.
  19. What is Shuto Uke i dont do karate so i dont understand the original names
  20. Which technique works best for you and which is your favourite if they are not the same. Mine is fairly boring and is the left hook. just that im good at it and can make it work well for me in sparring as it is fast and strong.
  21. If you dont keep Karate for what it was intended for then its not Karate. Its something else. Keep fit. Boxersice is not boxing and so it is kept separate. Fitness comes from hard training, when you need to know how to fight you will train harder and become fitter. Karate is for fighting thats why you punch and kick, thats it.
