  1. We have a black belt in our class who has been studying for 8 years he assists our sensei with teaching he mainly helps by teaching the newbies and sometimes leads the class when sensei will be late. Now, you might be thinking why a sensei would be late to his class, this is because our sensei is also an Indian Excise Police, taking care of the nation.
  2. Well... not considering the price, you could say they are just taking gradings more often to check if students are getting on with what is being taught. The amount of time to get to black belt is in the required boundary, Considering the fact that there is enough time in between for learning katas, perfecting stances, understanding concepts and kihon. I am not fit to judge money wise, because I am not from the particular region or even dojo. Every dojo has its own circumstances, The sensei might have to pay a large amount as rent, or maybe money for their certification or things like maintaining the dojo. If it doesn't have any of these other needs to fulfill their is a possibility of it being a McDojo or Money minded martial artist. It is to be said to ensure that he is a certified instructor before joining.
  3. I wasn't told not to wash it, but I personally don't like not washing my belt for two reasons:- 1.Most belts if washed lose their color slightly and I prefer to have the solid color. 2.Secondly, as you grow in your karate experience in any of the belts your sweat gets registered onto the belt and you can see an almost brownish color to the belt(I don't know if everyone has it, but it might be because I sweat a lot) and has a different smell to it and that just reminds me of how much work I have put into it always motivating me to push forward and keep going.
  4. Kusanku Dai or Kushanku Dai is a kata I still need to put more practice into. The critical jump always has my legs waving in the air. This kata has many movements that are exactly like the movements in many of the pinan katas. Correct me if I am wrong this is due to the fact that the pinan katas were made around more complex katas to give it to the masses in a more digest able form. Overall I enjoy the quick movements that this kata has to offer. but, these are just my thoughts as an orange belt, shito ryu practitioner. -Nijil
