  1. Thanks mal103-senpai. I actually felt it few weeks after when I started. Unfortunately, it's the only dojo in town so I don't actually have a choice. But what I'm doing though, I watch videos from masters like Sensei Oscar Higa, Sensei Morio Higaona, and Sensei Masatsu Oyama. Also bought Mas Oyama's complete karate course book. We only practice weekends since of of the karateka's are students. And without telling my sensei, I secretly practice a little Goju-ryu and other styles of those I mentioned above. Please lend me your guidance senpais.
  2. Hello again Senpais! Thanks for the advises again. I'll be taking my 6th Kyu test this Saturday and I'm so excited. One question that bothers me though is if it's normal to be jumping ranks? I mean, does it not violate any philosophical matters or principles of martial arts?(it's not that I don't trust my sensei but just a thought).
  3. But have you had any 'brink' of losing control along the way?
  4. Thanks much Senpais! I'll practice hard, although I'm really attracted to join full contact Kyokushin someday but wouldn't it be too late for a 24 yo kid like me who just started?
  5. Thank you for your guide Sensei8-senpai, AlwaysTraining-senpai and Wastelander-senpai. Because sometimes I can't sleep knowing that I have something dangerous. One quick question though, without Karate-gi, is it normal for a punch to make a grumbling/shaking sound?
  6. You got it right Senpai.. I have always been 'teased' or 'provoked' for countless of times even back when I wasn't a practitioner. Before, I have bullied/beat my provokers in my mind. Not that I'm training, even the thought of it scares me(it needs a thought to make an action). How about you Senpai? Have you ever been scared of what you have or developed? And, so happy to hear! I'm a Christian also. ^_^
  7. It may sound absurd to you guys but I'm quoting this from one anime(Naruto), "When two fighters/ninja/etc collide, they will learn their opponents will and thus know how to respond"(not the exact words). I'm still a beginner but getting hit by someone(specially bullies), I would assume that martial artists who have understood their art even slightly, would know why they were hit. And thus, knowing why they were hit would understand the assaulter. Turning the other cheek is a gesture that will depend on its effect. If you are turning the other cheek because of humility, it's good, no doubt about that, but what about your assaulter? Is is safe to say that martial artist should not just humble themselves by turning the other cheek, but to take action not just for themselves but for the benefit of the assaulter as well?
  8. Hi everybody! I just registered in this site hoping to find answers and help. I'm a newbie in training Martial Arts but I have been dreaming of it ever since I was a kid. Unfortunately I only started at the age of 24 and its been only 3 months since I started training. And now, almost all day I can't stop thinking about karate. Even at night, if I accidentally open my eyes, my arms move on their own blocking and punching. And not only that, I don't know if this is weird, I have been learning techniques, and each technique that I learn, I'm getting more and more afraid with respect to how deadly the technique is. Is this normal?
