  1. I heard some argument that when you punch someone's body, the intent to punch through his/her body is not a correct idea, since some of the force will be turning into 'push' force which causes no damage. Momentum = Force / Time, so the shorter time your fist contacts the body, the greater momentum and damage you will cause. The argument suggests punching to only 1 inch or 2 inside the body. The argument doesn't really make sense to me however. If your punching speed is fast enough, at the point when you punch through the body, the body is still not moving, and of course no 'push' will happen. But it is only my theory. What's your opinion on this? What's the best way to achieve maximum damage?
  2. Thanks for your inputs. The information is very helpful.
  3. I'm interested in Kyokushin but one of its sparring rules is weird... punching to head is not allowed!! I heard that Kyokushin guys often are unaware of attack to their heads because of the rule. Do you think the rule will cause a serious problem in fighting/self defense?
  4. I personally think even if we can execute techniques well enough, they are just "tools" to us. How to defeat the opponent using these tools is completely up to us.
  5. And how is one supposed to gain this experience? Is it not possible to be able to "win" a fight on the street if you don't do those kind of fights often? hmm... I think my statement is too strict. Experience from any fight that can simulate the street fight well should be sufficient for martial artists to win a fight. But again, that also depends on who the opponent is. If the guy is some monster like Mike Tyson there is still a big chance the martial artist will get beat in street.
  6. because they don't have street experience. If they have plenty of, I'm pretty sure they will kick ass.
  7. No, that has never happen in my dojo, but sometimes my shin is about to break because people block my kicks again and again, and too hard. Sound like the dojo you visited is donig full-contact fighting.
  8. Hi. I would like to hear your opinions on karate What's the biggest difference between karate and other martial arts? If you chose to take karate among all the martial arts out there, why? If you think karate is too broad to discuss, you can talk about the best karate style in your opinion.
