  2. No, I believe that's a requirement for the orange belt. I have done Taikyoku dai and Pinan Shodan katas.

    katas

I am studying Goshin-ryu karate. My school teaches over twenty empty hand katas as well as weapons katas from white to black belt. Is this about the same as some of the other styles?
  4. Someone told me the Goshin-Ryu style was popular in New Jersey, where I live. The style is an Okinawan style comprised of the four major styles: Shorin-Ryu, Gojo-Ryu, Uechi-Ryu and Issin-Ryu. We utilize techniques from hard and soft styles. We also use an assortment of self defense techniques, elements of Ju-Jitsu, Judo and Aikido throws. Pressure point and joint locking maneuvers are taught. We also do ground Fighting. Some of the training I have done so far include: Kata, kumite, mat work, heavey bag training and self defense drills. I'm really enjoying it and test for my yelllow belt on Monday!
  5. I'm new to karate and am studying the Goshin-Ryu style. Are there any pros or cons to this style? So far I love it.
  6. Hi, I'm new to this site and karate. I am thirty years old and started karate a couple of months ago (goshin-ryu). I love it!
