  1. I am interested in other things besides Karate, but I just like the flow and movement in Karate. I like alot of styles other than that, and I am still searching for other places around the Aiken, SC and Augusta, Ga areas. a couple other places I am looking to call are http://stsdkarate.com/ http://www.superioracademy.com/ and always looking for others that I may not know about.
  2. Yeah going to go more than once... I have just been searching basically for Martial Arts close to me. Trying to learn as much about the styles before I go In the event you don't like that place, and so you have something to compare it to, what else is within the distance you're willing to travel to train? I found a Shotokan school also close to me: http://www.karateaiken.com/ and also this school: http://kindaikarate.org/ and this one is pretty close also: http://www.japankaratesc.com/ and this one http://www.karatesc.com/ Of couse I am leaning more towards Karate than anything else
  3. So I posted in one a Karate board here and got some good help... I spent today calling and searching around to see what MAs were available in my area. Here is what I found that interests me..(I posted this here because the differant MAs listed) Also I have two kids (8 and 7) who want to take Karate, so something they could do also Tang Soo Do Hapkido Kindai Karate (I believe this dojo also offers Chito-Ryu and Tai Also) Shotokan Karate Shotokai Karate (also instructor said Kempo (or Kenpo cant remember the spelling) American TAI Karate Chun Kuk Do Any input on each one of these would help me narrow it down. Looking again for myself and my kids. Would like any info on them you have Since the only MA I have really seen in person at a Dojo is TKD (which I did not like all the kicking), I dont know anything abotu the styles I listed and their differances.. Hard or Soft, Competition or Sport, Full Contact or Knockdown, or just for point spar, or straight up self defense, etc... thanks

  5. Yeah going to go check it out. The way the instructor talked to my wife it is a Traditional School, with a focus in Self Defense. He said that it could be used in Full Contact or Knockdown Karate Tournaments, and even Point Sparring. He sent the Style list (above the long one I posted) in my email, but also told my wife it is a Kempo (or Kenpo dont remember right spelling) Karate.
  6. The closest class style to me is ZEN - SHOTO - KAI - KARATE - RYU (style the instructor gave me) Mikehesskarate.com is his website... Although I havent found anything on the style he gave me. going to do some more searching and see what else I find.
  7. Myself and my kids want to begin taking Karate. We are unsure the best way to find a dojo or instructor, or what styles of Karate are even close to us. I would prefer something that could be used in Self Defense, but would also like to possibly myself or kids get into Karate Tourneys later on if we progress in skill enough. What are the differant types of comps? I have heard of Full Contact, Point Spar, Knockdown, etc... and what are the bigger styles or more popular and what are the differances.? What style(s) would be good for beginners and children? thanks
