I am studying Shotokan....I think I could have reached my 1st dan by now but school, work, family etc etc. Anyways been studying for 6 years and a purple belt. I love it because its straight fowards no nonesense. -
Be careful when learning from just books. You can develop some very bad habits if noone is there to correct you. Books are good just for reference.

Hi there, was just wondering if anyone from this board lives/trains around the Houston area. I am currently a purple belt; studying Shotokan Karate. I am looking to join a good Shotokan school to reach my first dan. I would like to know if anyone can recommend some good schools. I am looking to join a more serious school as I have been studying at a YMCA/community center (not really a formal school). Thanks for any help.
