  1. Yeah i would have to with he probably bought the belt i mean as far as him being creditied i mean look at him hes like fat un-athletic and just i dont know lazy thats not to say that some one who is un-athletic cant be a brown belt in any martial art system im sure the instructor says something along the lines of anyone can do martial arts no matter their shape, size, race, sex etc. etc. i mean i could beat him down but i guess my experience in toher arts such as kung fu gives me that extra experience and sometimes the upper hand in free sparring.
  2. yes congrats... also i had my regional tournament on saturday boy i came back bruised in the shins and back and arms just went all out and although i diddnt do as well in team synchro kata or indivi. kata or sparring my partner and i redeemed ourselves in the black belt tournament in Men's Enbu which is a choragraphed routine and even though it is its own event the people that did mixed enbu(guy and girl) who were a brown and black belt got a score of 34.4 our score which i am a yellow belt and my friend is a green belt our score was 35.6 yeah so if they werent their own events we would still take the first place and which we did we got first im just soo excited now that its over but also because it was my first competition and i got a first place in a black belt brown belt division
  3. I love the kata Tekki Shodan and also i love doing Enpi also my favorite kata of them all would probably be Meikyo just becuase like Wankan it is not performed often and also becuase Meikyo is easy with tis short moves and i like Tekki because it has easy strong Kiai points and its all done in Kiba Dachi and i like Enpi becuase of the fast ness of the kata and that it is made for the person who is more agile and fast a person who can get in and get out like attack and get out sort of thing.
  4. I have done kung-fu since last year in june and then just recently about eight months ago i started shotokan karate and have been doing that lately and am currently a yellow belt and have the regional tournament tomorrow against Oregon, Washington and Idaho so that will be great.
  5. This one time while my friend who is a green belt and i (yellow belt) were sparring the only black belt in our class and he has been training ever since his black belt for about 21 years well while we were sparring him i got him on the defense and he did an open hand block and his thumb was to the outside and i did a shin kick to his hand and unintentionally i severly dislocated his thumb and man did it look sick and then he is like in other words that i will not put on here said get the hell over here and help me put it back in place. That was scary because i was afraid he would have liked killed me...
  6. i like the https://www.sfdt.com its a grwat site with like over 50 movies of noting but stick people beating the hell out of each other its soo funny but yet soo great ... I love it
  7. hello fellow martial artist, My regional event for shotokan karate is coming up this Apr. 5&6 & i cannot wait for oen i am involved in synchro kata team individual kata sparring(kumite) and i think that is all i can do im not too sure if i and my partner can do a polished routine (enbu) but i was wondering what events are there in other martial arts i know since im only 16 i have to participate in the kids events which is not fair but oh well rules are rules and in the national events there other things such as enbu, fuko-go and kata application as well as synchro kata team and individual kata and sparring of course but i was interested if there was like a team sparring in other martial art regional events where its like a 2 on 2 or 3 on 3 thing. So let me know please that would be cool,.
  8. I love the fact that in shotokan the rules of the dojo are be prepared to be attacked when you walk in but what i dont like is that if you hurt a lower rank during class not outside of class its your fault for not having enough control and if a lower rank hurts you its your fault for not blocking but oh well its still fun to free spar the upper ranks although i do like a quote a 3rd kyu said which would be first level of brown belt he said ," The most dangerous student is a white belt."
  9. my shotokan system goes like this white belt 9kyu yellow 8 kyu orange7 kyu green6kyu purple5kyu blue4kyu brown(3levels) 3kyu, 2kyu, 1kyu black(9levels)shodan - ku-dan

    katas

yeah shotokan has 26 also a kata that is for a special tournament that sensei nishiyama wrote himself called kite/kiite however its spelled im sure the first is right and i know about 8, you learn 7 before your first shodan though.
  13. I like the double aerial kick and aerial kicks im a person that loves the air moves they are cool heh. I like the cyclone kick followed by a roundhouse to head then using the other leg a sweeping technique.
  14. Hello fellow people of martial arts, I am doing an English paper on the application of shotokan kata and will include but not limited to breathing, stances, body and hip rotation, why we do kata, what is kata for (learning), polishing of moves. My main subject is kata application and all those sub-subjects fall under if anyone can give me information on any of the above or additional information i would much pleased thank you.
  15. I heard from an old chinese person one day when i was out shopping in china town, and we got in the disscussion of martial arts that the samurai stole some of their teaching books of martial arts he also said that like no forieners were allowed to be taught as well as women as well and i know that to be fact but i havent a slightest clue if the samurai did steal some of the shaolins books if anyone has any info on this please it would be of great help

  17. i dont get the ancient blessing someone explain please.. i know im slow i must be if i dont get it...
  18. thats how it was when i switched from kung- fu to shotokan my transcripts would not change over... it sucked becuase if it did i would be a blue belt going on brown which would be 3rd kyu or first level of brown... i think that sucks becuase i knew all the blocks and kicks that a white belt should know and the sparring i just diddnt know the kata that was the only real difference besides the stances but there were some similarities...
  19. i would agree something me sensei told us when it was time for testing 6 months ago was that for every ten white betls theres a yellow, for every 10 yellow theres an orange and so on he was basing it on past statistics on those who truly wanted to become a black belt and those who wanted it but did not put the effort to wanting it.
  20. i would agree thats what my sensei told me since we are following the art of traditional okinaway shotokan founded by gishin funakoshi we live by his principals in which the real training begins once you reach dan level(black belt level)
  21. really every martial art has its advantages and disadvantages its on how you can make either one more stronger in a personal way... karate like shotokan for example has a lot of linear and parallel stances everything is straight up and down or side to side where as kung fu lets you be more free in that the stances can have some curves in it... Ive taken both arts so i would know first hand as would anyone else who taken two different arts... its like when someone says the grass is green and someone else see's that its brown... not everyone has the same opinion on things just as not everyone has the same opinion on which martial art is the best.
  22. yes i agree its all to mislead your oppent ive seen some froms of drunken style on some sites give a few days like until monday and i can post some really good shaolins sites with videos and pictures that demonstrate drunken form...
  23. Same with the five animal forms, you don't have to be an animal to do it you just have to have that kind of thinking its in the mind... so if your practicing drunken style then the moves are of that, that look like someone who is actually drunk they are unreherssed and poor form and stance but can be evaisive as well.
