  1. Wushu and Chi na are both very effective important to remember that to truly ascend the limitations of modern martial artists what is commonly regarded as practical should literally be thrown out the window. The locks in Chi na are in my opinion more effective than BJJ if taught properly. And Wushu in general (once again dependant on instructor) can be devastating.
  2. I was always taught that the stances are an integral part of kung fu, so while not wishing to be offensive I will disagree with those who claim boxing has one significant stance. I find in both sparring and combat that I make use of all my stances and the teachers forceing me to practice and perfect my stances has paid off in that most people trying to sweep me cannot take me down rather they end up injuring their own legs. As for the animal strikes and general martial arts fist techniques, amny will tell you that a closed fist is all you need in a fight, once again I respectfully disagree as Ive found that my dragon , tiger and crane fists allow me execute combos and techniques most common martial artists cannot comprehend having to ever face. (Also remember bodidharma had a huge influence on chinese boxing incorporating the animal styles which he learned from traditional martial arts like kalariyapattu and RSA). Lastly we must remember kung fu literally means hard work, What happens when you work harder than any other man you inevitably get stronger, faster and more skillful than any other man. So definitely a martial art system for people of meek nature and weaker stature because it will help you grow physically, mentally and spiritually if you have an event halfway decent teacher.
  3. Wasnt the best Wing chun ever but it worked for him so who are we to criticize, think he was brilliant at what he did. Also think none of what he did was pure chinese martial arts.
  4. I agree it is being revived though Il admit that for a while there was a seriouss lack of skillful instructors and that led something of a decline. Individuals such as Bucksam Kong and Jerry Smith are now proving that the traditional approach to tai chi and Kung fu is most definitely the best. Too much playing around with the formula so that certain people can begin to grasp something clearly beyond them just lessens the efficacey and purity of said arts.
  5. Honestly I feel chinese martial are are undergoing a revival in their popularity, the reason for their decline individuals who as teachers were irresponsible and focused only on the physical and not also the spiritual side of these martial arts. One i particular famous for popularising the one inch punch comes to mind, though I will give him credit for teaching the discipline of the martial arts to people who would otherwise have been ignorant. Also bear in mind that he became popular and is regarded by many as the father of MMA. Already proving he was purely a physical martial artist.
  6. Big fan of tiger cheng, he truly is a master at what he does. Taking tai chi to a whole new level.
  7. We do train on the ground, (for academic purposes i guess) but it is my opinion if you are taken to ground you give up a huge advantage so i instill in my pupils the need to finish a fight quickly in stand up position. One of my students recently said to me that some of his peers at school fight with loads of rules , fear of facial shots in sparring etc and he realized they are studying sports, what he is studying is a devastating martial art.
  8. Training Should also be done so that you are never taken to the ground.
  9. Difference between me and most kungfu teachers is my students do train in ground combat.
  10. I am pleased with the answers I have recieved to my comment, most of my peers that I have thus far encountered are in my opinion delusional in their outlook. The senseis and sifus that have commented on my post seem far more sensible and knowledgeable.
  11. Most people today believe that kung fu is amazing in stand up combat but not as effective on the ground. I would urge them to do more proper research chi na is one of the most effective grappling systems in the world. Many people have found the error of their ways and opinions against me in that manner. There is also a belief that all fights inevitably end up on the ground, I totally disagree good luck getting me or one of my advanced students to the ground.
