  1. LOL!! Thats a good one! My Sensei says it was named after a shaolin priest who created it. It looks really interesting. At the moment I think our school focuses on 6 kata. There are more but they dont practice them anymore. I wil try to find more of this kata to see if anyone know about it.
  2. It doesnt look like Wanshu. I am beginning to find out we have a very unique karate style here. Very cool!
  3. Anyone heard of a kata called wong? We have it in our style it looks like a variation of Sanchin. moving forwards with your arms in a sanchin style. I dont know it but was watching the black belts practicing it during advanced class. Any one know of this kata?
  4. Whoa still no responses? Anyone knows what makes Shorinji ryu sifferent in general?
  5. I have been searching around the internet about Shorinji ryu and have not found much about this style. I understand it is related to Shorin ryu but different. Can anyone state the differences or particulars about Shorinji Ryu? I understand this is a broad question but I am curious to find any details. My style I am learning is Kongo Zen Shorinji Ryu Son Ryu. It is not related to Shorinji Kempo at all. I have been researching this particular style and have not found anything like it so far. The head of this style is Reverend Yoshio Murasaki in Oahu. There are three locations, one in Oahu and two on the Big Island. Stylistically it looks very different. In Zenkutsu dachi (and all other stances) the front foot is not straight but heel pointed out. And there is also a large emphasis on the punch originating from the rolling of the tanden(Or koshi i think). Does anyone practice a similiar style? Thanks!
  6. Hello!! I am a brand new Karate student. I have been practicing Shorinji Ryu for about two months. I have a shodan in Aikido and a little experience with I Liq Chuan. I am thoroughly enjoying Karate and look forward to learning more. The style I am practicing is unusual and there only seems to be three schools of this particular style in Hawaii and no where else. Nice to mee you all!!
