  1. >>>trapping is locking your opponent using any lock joint etc<<< No. That would be a lock. Traps do not have to be locks.
  2. From what I've heard both Gini and Lily (her sister) Lau have billed themselves as Grandmaster of Yingzhao Quan (Eagle Claw Boxing). Which is the true Grandmaster? And what of their other siblings? And what of Leung Shum who is a master under the Chan lineage? Or Leung Fu Grandmaster of Bak Shaolin Eagle Claw? These guys were never students under Gini or Lily from what I've heard. What gives?
  3. Impeding the motion of your opponent.
  4. You might be able to finish the 3 basic forms in 2 years. The Luk Dim Boon Kwun and Baat Jam Dao will take a bit longer to learn and understand.
  5. Depends on the student, the teacher, the branch being studied, etc., etc. Different branches of the art teach different things.
  6. >>>"How do you obtain your sashes in Wing Chun?I am dying to know."<<< You can buy them just like any piece of cloth denoting "rank."
  7. San Setsu Kon is the name for the 3 section style of Nunchaku. ("San" means "3" and "Setsu" means "Joint" if I remember correctly) It is different from the 3 sectional staff used in Chinese Styles. [ This Message was edited by: Pangamut on 2001-09-24 08:54 ]
  8. That's an interesting list of styles. From my limited experience I would like to add that: Chin Na is a term referring to the joint locking techniques found within a Chinese system. It is generally not regarded as a "style." Certain arts use more of these techniques than others. Eagle Claw boxing (Yingzhao Quan) and some forms of Crane boxing (He Quan) are famous for their use of Chin Na. Dim Mak can also be part of Chin Na technique training. There are several Northern & Southern Mantis styles. Northern Mantis is also referred to as Tong Long or Seven Star Mantis. Can also be Plum Blossom, 8 Step, etc, etc. There are several "Monkey" styles: Hou Quan - Monkey Fist Tai Shing Pek Kwar- Monkey style mixed with Shaolin Pek Kwar. There are several "Tiger" styles: Fu Jow - Tiger Claw He Hu Quan - Black Tiger Fist Bak Fu Pai - White Tiger
  9. The different spellings of a style's name can also indicate branches within a style. Wing Tsun, for instance, is the spelling preferred by the organization headed by Dr. Leung Ting. Others use Wing Chun, Ving Tsun, or Yongchun Quan, it depends on the lineage of the instructor. [ This Message was edited by: Pangamut on 2001-09-24 07:50 ]
  10. [Edited by Admin: Pangamut, if you know the answers or where it is from. Please do not post it, don't ruin the fun for others. Thank you.] [ This Message was edited by: Patrick on 2001-09-24 10:39 ]
  11. I've seen that tape. If I remember correctly it has Dan Inosanto attacking some officers and Leo Gaje demonstrating some knife attacks. It makes some good points.
  12. http://hoshinsulonline.tripod.ca/ Has, among many other things, several links for terminology used in Korean Martial Arts. Of course http://www.barrel.net/ is always a great source too. This Message was edited by: Pangamut on Aug 20, 2001 11:56am
  13. I thought the Korean flag was called Taegeuk Ghi (Taeguk Ki)?
  14. I've been looking for about 2 years. Long enough to weed out the wanna-be instructors. (I've done it long enough to be able to tell if they know something useful to me) I did find one instructor close by but, because of time constraints on both ends, it just never panned out. Nobody's fault really just very conflicting schedules. The next closest experienced instructor I've found is about 3 1/2 hours away (Marc McFann - being an Inosanto student you might have heard of him). Tis a long drive and I haven't discussed classes with his school yet but right now it's my only possibility.
