Are the same strikes practiced in a live manner with protective equipment at about half power? And resistance. What I see here are really glorified one-steps. Once the attacker has thrown his initial strike, and it gets blocked, there is nothing else from him but cooperation. I'm not saying there is no value in learning this way, but I think its a step that starts self-defense training, and is good for learning techniques and such, but eventually you have to move on to some type of resistance from he attacker to foul up the plans.k Now, that said, I've only seen three clips of the style, so if there is something more like this, then that's great. I'd love to hear more about the style. Yes those are one steps, I don't know about glorified but those are white belt videos beginner just starting out in the art. The upper belts work off of multiple strikes and opponents. Yes you are right it is a step that starts self defense training. Those clips were just to show how San soo goes to the eyes, groin and throat.

Are the same strikes practiced in a live manner with protective equipment at about half power? Everybody wheres protective cups to protect the groin. As for other pads or protective gear maybe a mouth piece. As a beginner I am taught to do any move I learn very slowly to learn control. the upper belts go hard and fast and yes sometimes someone gets a shot that hurts. San soo goes to the groin , throat and eyes quite a bit.Peeps take shots to the groin everyday but you can't take eye and throat shots.

I'm just saying that just because someone fights on a rule set, doesn't make them that susceptible to losing a street fight. I hear what you are saying and understand. Im not saying MMA people are a bunch of no good fighters. There is no way I would want to fight a professional MMA fighter. When you train day in and day out to strike and hit people in places that MMA peeps don't usually train to do, then you are more than likely to strike those areas and end a fight quickly.

I agree with you here to an extent, but I also believe that one can train their mindset to get past this kind of thing, and learn how to deal with that fear when it comes on. I agree whole heartedly but I also believe that the earlier someone starts to change or train their mindset the better. My family and I went on vacation with my best friends family back in 2010. The entire time I had to police my son when he was around my friends youngest son who is about 2 years older and out weighs my son by 50 plus pounds. My son was constantly picked on and it got old very fast.I would constantly hear my son saying " stop leave me alone". When we returned from vacation, I put my son in Kung fu san soo and within 4 or 5 months his mindset went from a helpless victim to a confident kid that was not going to be bullied. Now when our families get together he is no longer bullied or pushed around because HE/ my son does not allow it to happen. He will give it right back without a 2nd guess. It is amazing how much differently my friends son treats my son now. He treats him as more of an equal and does not boss or push him around.
