  1. Mine would be Pinan Shodan. It may be the most basic, but it has the best principals. It teaches the main stances, how to move, turning, hard to soft, soft to hard, bunkai is actually rather neat, it teaches take downs, blocks, punches, and is simple.
  2. Ya... Apparently "Time Management" is not in the list of things needed for karate...
  3. Thanks! Ya it was all fun, but the best part was the meal after words... It was really good. OSU!
  4. Ok so the Tournament was changed to December 8th (Today) a few days ago. And then change locations. So then came the Tournament. First came Adult Males, Then Females, and then My group. After totally sucking in kata came kumite. I won the first match (Yay) and then faced the champ.... Ok so I lost and came in 2nd place but I figured out a new way to spring from an attack and such. The whole experience was good and fun. And the meal afterword was good. So I'll post some pictures (Edit it in when I get them) about is and as always OSU!
  5. Ya your right I don't hang out with them, but there is one evil person in that team..... Can't say his name might bring bad luck. But I'm going to try out the BJJ place near by.
  6. Ya I'm a freshmen... But I don't get along with the guys on the wrestling team........... Like Can't stand em. A bunch of ego, whoops going all ranting and such, but My school's wrestling team is a bit uh bullish and I don;t like them so that would cause rather bad disputes. But thanks for the help. OSU!
  7. School: Montclair Karate City: Montclair NJ, USA Sensei: Justin DeSalvo 3rd Dan.
  8. Unfortunately it is closed , and its in Fords NJ, but it might be someplace new. But I think Shihan Bill might be doing an open Tournament.
  9. If I had a choice I would want to try Sambo, because I heard good things, but I'll try out the BJJ place near by. Thanks for your Help. OSU!
  10. Ok. I'll try out the place. Thanks for helping me. OSU!
  11. I have a shodan in Shukokai Karate. But I feel like I only know half of the fight. I kind of want to learn a grappling style. What style should I learn? any suggestions? I know there is a BJJ place near, but not sure if I should try it. OSU!
  12. OK not sure if December 9, but Kimura Shukokai is having a tournament in the USA. Sorry for those over seas, but Hopefully it will be fun, and I might post some pictures. Just wanted to say what was happening in my style OSU.
  13. Well I am not the biggest fan of kata, but Kata is VERY important to karate. Kata would teach new moves and ways of movements, while sparring taught you how to use them in an actual situation. Like in some martial arts kata comes from dances designed to hide the art. And if I may ask what dojo/gym is this? Osu.
  14. I guess I do listen to "Eye of the Tiger" every now and then, but I don't listen to music while doing kata/forms because I find it is a bit distracting.
  15. I don't think there is any "Pure system" because everyone's style is different from everyone elses. BUT! You may use the same techniques as someone and have a similar way of fighting but not the same.
  16. If I remember correctly, the olympics is run by the WTF and use their rules. So ITF TKD guys might not do the olympics, but probably still do.
  17. Not sure if this already a topic, or not really appropriate for this, but I have to ask what music do you listen to, if you listen to music, when practicing martial arts?
  18. Not Sure how good this video is but its the 80+ division of TKD
  19. chicken wrist sounds really neat, what exactly is it, because karate might have it.
  20. When Fighting many guys, If they have a "Leader" go at him, If your blocked from an exit. If they have no set "Leader" then try to get out of there by getting one or two to make an exit.
  21. Thats Pretty Damn awesome, Though less techniques and more slug match
  22. So If I were in a situation like a mugging, I would probably do as he says, because most muggings happen behind you and rarely or generally do not lead to death. BUT I would fight for my life if some random slasher came, or I was jumped, and when I fight for real I go in with the mind set of "Not going to die." but in a tournament my mind is "Not going to loose."
  23. I'm a Fourth Generation. Mr. Kimura was the first Generation Then Shihan Bressaw We still don't know who will succeed Shihan Bressaw And then me.
