White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. My new goals in 2013 1)Slowely ease into doing pushups when i feel i am physical able to ie not been able to do so since i broke my left big toe 2 months previously 2)only attempt the required gradinges when i am good and ready for them and be more prepared and have more confidence in successfully achieving the required gup grades. 3)learn the required forms and other self defence techinques that are required for gradings this year when i am ready to do so. 4)start attending tournements when i am able to 5) have more self confidence in myself and my own abilities as a martial artist and not to attempt techniques that at the moment and at my current martial arts development are beyond my reach.
  2. I am a 9th gup(white/yellow belt) at the mo in Tang so Do Karate being doing it for 3 months now. I hoping to slowly go up the gradings this year.My goal is to achieve at least orange/green belt by the end of the year.
  3. My phlilosophy is u never too old to learn anything u want to do.I started karate when i was in my late 40s.So if its something u really want to do then do it.Everyone has to start somewhere
  4. Thanks for the above advice Harkon72,I really appreciate it
  5. Its how much overall commitment as well as deciation you put into learning it that really matters. No one i dont care how good they are when they start wouldnt become a black belt overnight it takes many years of practice over and over again to accomplish it.
  6. Thanks for everyones views on what i asked, its greatly appreciated.I see how Tang so Do goes first then when i am further up the Gups then decide
  7. Thanks for your viewpoint "Fu Man" the other Karate Style i had in mind wasnt Shokan it was Shukokai Karate.Which i think is very different to the Tang so Do syle i have already started in.
  8. How many years will it take a Martial Artist to obtain the black belt.It really depends really as others have already stated it depends on how many times a week you practice as well as train in your respective schools We get told the average is between 4-5 years of training to obtain your 1st Dan Black belt and is going off regular attendce of attending classes 2-3 times a week. Every Individual is different some individuals could earn their Black Belt in 3 years others will take longer. It also dependent if you keep update with your gradings and if the said instructor thinks you are ready to grade for your next belt. Regular attendence is the key,you also need to have the required knowledge /skill to demostarte the requirements of whatever kyu or gup level you upto to success pass that grade.
  9. Hi All I just wanted to know everyones views or opions on this.Which is it possiable to train as well as practice in two different styles of karate at the same time I would appreciate any views/opinions on this thanks newbiekata
  10. we do use pad work, but we also concertate on the fundamentals of punching, various styles of kicks in our style of karate, blocks, hyung(forms) as well as self defence techniques as well as sparring. Each particular lesson is different.
  11. at our school we also stripes on our belts,we start off with white belt, than white with yellow stripe, yellow, orange, green, green with one blue stripe, green with two blue stripes.red, red with blue stripe, red with two blue stripes, then black(junior 1st dan)senior 1st dan(black with 1 white stripe) then 2nd dan is black with two white stripes.
  12. yes i would tell my school instuctor about it,i feel it would be better to tell him or her rather than not to.
  13. I mainly train to keep up my fitness levels, and i also enjoy each particular class and of course,i believe you never stop learning, you could have learned our particular style of karate for many years but there is always new things to learn.
  14. Our school concerntates on a mixture of sparring, hyung(forms)blocks, kicks and of course self defence techinques which we feel is important that each individual needs to learn really.
