I completely disagree with the idea of skipping belts. I got my black belt in Karate and I went on to Tae Kwon-Do, but I would never skip a belt as it is a different martial art thus a completely different form - no matter how similar the moves you must learn them and advance at the set rate instead of skipping simply because of your martial arts history.

Buying Belt Before Promotion?
shimizu replied to Lupin1's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Do whatever motivates you! this is definitely as good idea as your brown belt grading/promotion should be recognizably more difficult that your previous kyu gradings/promotions. good luck -
very clever idea!

Maybe you could KIAI in correct place and breath out on each move

Hi, I don't like roundhouse kicking with the ball of my foot yet it is the technical way that it should be done in my TKD and that is what I have to do for gradings and stuff but for sparring or in karate - my preference is definitely the instep of the foot, i like to throw the kick from my rear leg and just once if hitting hard but making sure the kick is really powerful or a couple of times off my lead leg if trying to catch out/score points in competitions. hope this helped in anyway

if you've only just started a couple a months ago then (please don't take any offence by this but) you may need to continue practicing for another couple of months maybe until you are able to do it - maybe start at mawashi geri chudan and slowly heighten your kicks
-
congratulations and well done for keeping at it

they're good prices - especially the 5 class block for $35 - I'm from England and if you convert that to £ - that's more of less the same as the karate prices at my dojo
-
I think some main points are to do it next to the student and to also example the "chambering" of the knee and make clear the part of the foot you kick with
-
It may just be nerves - try to convince her possible you could make everyone in the dojo give a massive kiai or something as if to encourage her. just a suggestion

I also agree! I also also agree- that is outrageous

Taekwondo question
shimizu replied to localman's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
The only time in my classes when I wear footwear is when I'm training sparring in which case I wear protective foot-pads. -
I can only imagine your frustration however maybe the school he came from was a bad one with lots of meaningless black belts being given out? Maybe his old school's standards where much lower?
-
to me, this is a single technique that completely obliterates life

That is so true ! You cannot just walk into a class and demand respect - you have to show others respect before you yourself (despite your m/yudansha ranking) are shown it!

As a christian, you should be able to study the religion just like children study islam and judaism in school so I don't see what the problem is there. Of course, if - however - you are thinking of following the ways of that religion; that would be what your church is disallowing, i would think
-
strange, but I agree with this - it is probably something in the room that your mind is noticing but your consciousness has not yet picked up- it could be a wide range of things that are causing this?[/u]

very good little quote there, thank you for sharing that - i shall remember. oss

That is so true. Thank you for touching on that subject - I agree but when as you say for example, a bully slaps you and you know you could (for want of a better phrase) destroy him but you don't because you are a humble man that is thinking of the bully's "feelings" if you turn on him then other people around you may just think that you're a weakling for not retaliating against the bully - such a scenario would be common and also frustrating- would it not?
