  1. Has anyone ever heard about The Black Dragon International Academy of Korean Karate w/ instructor Master Sung Lee??? I'm interested to know if anybody who trains TKD has heard of the guy. I want to know more about him and his school so if you know anything please reply.
  2. Oh well, Thanks for showing me the link. I just joined this site so I haven't had time to see all the topics that have been posted.
  3. What qualities do you think make a good Sensei? Lots of people say that you've got to train for 10+ years before you can be a good teacher, or be a 3rd Dan. I just want to know what it is people here think makes a Sensei a good teacher. I always thought teaching was half something you were born to do, and half knowledge in whatever you are teaching. Just curious to hear some other thoughts:) OSU!!!
  4. Definately Gi. It keeps the dojo more traditional. A nice white gi. When you put it on it helps get you in the Karate mindset. You are ready to train. It is the same as a football player wearing their uniforms when they play. You don't see them just running around the field in sweats. So I think the Gi is the way to go!!
  5. That is a good question. As far as I can tell the only real difference are the people in charge of the organization. When Mas Oyama died there were three people who claimed to be the "True" successor of Sosai. Of course nobody knows who really is, and so they split into the three IKO's. Not to mention all the other little associations besides those. I would'nt think there would be a big difference in how things are run. Probably mostly just little minor details, although I haven't trained with these branches personally, I am part of the IFK (Internation Federation of Karate) headed by Hanshi Steve Arneil. I know that all the kata are the same and all.If you really want to learn about Kyokushin history I'd go to http://www.australiankyokushin.com. The site is currently under construction, but it's really great so look for it in the future. If you want to know more just ask. Osu! Sempai Murphy
  6. Does anybody know of sparring drills that help students work on their reaction time. I love to free sparr, but I want to work on getting good at blocking techniques. Any suggestions? Thanks:)
