White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. Just like the 85 Godzilla....HA! Just Kidding I just re-enlisted into a school after being away for about 8 months. I found a different school that I liked even better, and luckily, they practice the same style I started with! YAY! So, after 1 night so far, things came back quickly. I can't wait to see how far it can take me now. Feels good to be back.
  2. No, not the kind you get with a needle I am into my third month of training now, and starting to get hit a little harder by some of my higher-ranked peers (maybe they figured I can take it) So these wonderfull "Uechi-Tatoos" AKA....BRUISES on my arms, how soon until my body gets used to it, and they don't show up as often Ok, fine, so I am kinda proud of them...I love telling the stories about them. But, just wondering if there will be any ill-affects later on??
  3. Rising Star East Ayer, Ma Sensei John Page- third degree Black Belt - Sandan. About an hour east of Boston
  4. Yes, I have heard that "All is in Sanchin" and I have pretty much kept that revolving in my head...seems to be working. Its amazing how everything really does in some way lead back to Sanchin... I was really taken by the history. I love history, so for me, reading about and learning about the life and times of Kanbun is quite fascinating! I am studying at Rising Star East in Ayer...everyone there is very helpful and friendly
  5. thank you for all the support, and the advice... I had the cup on the second night
  6. Most of my adult life I have spent as a part-time, recreational pilot. Are there any pilots here?? Either work or pleasure?? I am also a LT in the US Civil Air Patrol, and I am mission pilot. Learning to fly a Glass 182! I got my licence in 1992, and have always enjoyed it! I am looking forward to learning the ways of Karate. Maybe it will help me be a more focused pilot
  7. Hey Everyone. Just joined the sight...looks like a ton of good information from great folks! My wife has been taking classes for last couple of years, and had me come to a class one night. I was hooked. I have been going now for almost a month! And, now I have someone to practice with, so does she! I started a little late in life (37) but I was inspired by another student that just earned his second stripe on his first belt, and he is 75! WOW! So far, learning the Kata's is my favorite part. It's almost "relaxing" Last night I learned how to throw an opponent to the floor I look forward to learning alot, and hopefully being a good contributer!
  8. Speaking specifically about the Karate Kid trillogies (the originals), what style of Karate is closest to what the characters are doing in the films? Now, I realize that they are in fact actors and stunt men, but I am sure somone had to write in the sequences, so, did they base them on any specific style? Or, is it just Hollywood "dancing"?? I remember watching the movies as a kid, thinking how amazing everthing was. Even though I just recently started classes as an adult, I can already see that the movie is just that, a movie. I do however, have a new respect for it! thanks!
  9. Hi there. Great site. I am new to Karate also. My wife took me to one of her classes and I got hooked. I can't wait for the next class! (Uechi-Ryu) Starting kinda late in life, I am 37, but in good phyical condition. What one thing would you advise me? I look forward to learning alot and getting better Thank You!
