  1. Wow. That's quite a story. Guess people are unpredictable sometimes. My faith in katanas and such in the real world has now been restored . Then again, I always liked a good ole fashioned pipe fight like how they do in those HK triad films.
  2. @isshinryu5toforever - We're goin for like katanas and such. Its a modern look. Like a street fight in a city, where they got those plain butcher knives. Nothing medieval. There could be metal vs wood fights. A typical brawl like in an alley. Scenarios in the script could change. We'll look into choreographers if/when we reach certain phases of production. @JohnASE - Thanks for the link to the site. Not quite what we're looking for in this particular project, but good to know for future ref. Appreciate all who is askin around.
  3. Thanks JohnASE & isshinryu5toforever for the helpful info! @isshinryu5toforever - Hmm, yeah guessing they really use those types of metals in films like Crouching Tiger. To stand up to constant sparring/beating. @JohnASE - I'm in the SF Bay area mainly. From time to time, I go to LA and help my friend with film projects. Should I be in the LA in the future, I'll be sure to keep your info handy. Thanks for reachin out to your contacts! Yeah, its been hard to find prop weapons in stores and online. Did a bit of research at Chinatown, most of em either only carry real or obviously fake. We're still in research/development mode and it may take a while till we raise enough money for the film and shift gears into production. Appreciate any kind of suggestion or advice. Thanks all!
  4. I'm a Martial Arts enthusiast / filmmaker. Just wanted to say hi and learn more about different styles and cultures
  5. Wondering if anyone knows of places to rent or buy Prop swords and such. Like the ones you see in movies, I think they use some kind of softer, safer aluminum. But they still got that glossy, metallic finish. Looking to have more options. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks! -- Sandstorm
  6. Thanks for that insightful review Tony! Much appreciated. And to all those who had a chance to watch it. I wanted to experiment with low light situations. Particularly with the dying light bulb effect which was a technical challenge. And we had a small budget for gear. Yeah, I put that film together quite fast, [like 3 weeks from casting, crew, to post-production] was under a deadline for a fest. We were sad we couldnt do more. Our fighters are way more talented in real life and well versed in "film fighting." Also, it was my first time out working with them and their safety was my top concern. Wanted to try choreography general audiences would find entertaining and easy to follow. Most films, its always cut too fast or have unbelievable moves. [i've taken Jiujitsu in the past, but am nowhere near any kind of pro level. But appreciate all Martial Arts forms and their history.] The script dialogue was by the film fest. All filmmakers had to abide by their dialogue lines and 3 minute time frame. No changes whatsoever coulda been made unfortunately. I agree, I wish the story was a lil better. However, I have other projects in the works. Hope to start a feature length Martial Arts film in the near future. For now, we just want to put it out in the world and see what people thought of it. Thanks all for watching! -- Sandstorm ------------------------------------------
  7. Hello all! Im a big fan of martial arts in films. Recently got to work with a couple of martial artists and their choreography. Did this for fun and everyone was a volunteer. Wanted to make a longer, more intricate fight sequence, but we ran outta time. Wanted to see what people's thoughts were. Good or bad.
