  1. that movie was so bad. i turned it off after like 20-25 mins. i couldn't take the punishment of it anymore. And i actually think danny is a funny guy in other things he does
  2. Really good answers so far, but "looking like Bruce lee" takes the cake haha i thought this kind of thread needed some humor in case everyone had the same answers like, was bullied, saw jackie chan, weight loss, etc. (but really, who wouldn't wanna have that kinda physique?) But if you want more of a serious serious answer. I don't know how to describe it. Can I say that maybe it's also the feeling you get when you step on the floor? do you all feel this feeling or is it just me? freshly cleaned dobok/gi. you bow to your grandmaster/sensei. The smell of sweat and training equipment. you do your deep breathing exercises, and it's like you're soaking up all the history from previous martial artists that have walked the same path as you, for hundreds of years. wearing the same uniform, doing the same techniques, the same traditions. passed down, to you, and you will eventually pass it down to the next journeyman. you just zone out, get tunnel vision, and focus on the snap of your uniform at the end of every movement in your hyung/kata. That one hour, where i'm in another world, and everything is alright. that one hour of serenity and bliss, that "feeling" is why I train.
  3. -fitness -confidence -self defence -looking like bruce lee -love of east asian culture -simple love of martial arts and it's history -being batman
  4. there is a chinese version called Kung Fu Quest. But in this version it's different hosts each episode (although some come back, and two are karate black belts) and they go around china learning lesser known styles of gong fu, in the most traditional and serious way possible. And with a lot less talking to the camera that you guys dont like. it's also survived for 3 seasons although i have not been able to find the third one with english subtitles
  5. I guess i could also say, feel free to boast or brag about your teacher or tell stories about funny things about them, or maybe stories about them? or why you look up to them? interesting idea to post your teachers teacher. i never thought of that. I would do that, but there is only 1 person behind GM Park and that's General Choi and everyone knows who he is, so there wouldn't be much point to it
  6. Hey guys, I thought this would be a good idea. To just see other teachers, or styles, or just what everyone else is learning. I used the search function and it seems no one has thought of this before. So hopefully this is something new. I wasn't sure where to put this, either here or the media section. If I was wrong feel free to move it, and i'm sorry. Well to get started, here is my grandmaster. Unfortunately, people weren't taking videos in the 50's, 60's,70's like they do today so there isn't much of him in his prime. But these i'm sure will do. [/code]
  7. i find that sometimes when i'm really out of it, and have to force myself to go is actually when I do my best in class.
  8. fighting a bull like Mas Oyama. haha that's great
  9. i wanted to tease about the 80's hairstyle but I wont because he's quite good. haha
  10. saw it a a while ago with the girlfriend. I liked it, thought it was way too long though. it's could have been 45 minutes shorter and been just as good. I really didn't need the repetitive training montages. Like, we get it. They're good fighters haha
  11. This is the year I finally found a MA I love, after trying out so many through out my life
  12. 1) make it to green stripe or green belt 2) put on 6-8lbs of muscle 3) increase flexibility to the point of being able to kick someone in the head
  13. truthfully i have no idea. I'll have to ask someone next time i'm in the dojang.
  14. yeah we do sine wave when we do our punches. But while doing my forms, neither the black belts or GM Park have corrected me and told me to make sure to do it.
  15. I'm a yellow stripe in ITF, and i'm currently working on learning Chon Ji and Dan Gun. I haven't been told to do the forms with sine wave. My grandmaster is Jong Soo Park, student of General Choi if that helps. anyways, yeah good stuff
  16. i remember my first class at my dojang was really similar. surrounded by red belts, black stripes, and black belts, and here I am first trial class and I don't have a dobok yet. But i slowly learned that actually the higher up belts were actually more inviting and open than the other belts. i like this thread and look forward to hearing more of your stories. good luck
  17. since i have to wear the dobok that's given to me with the ITF logo on it. I can't try this. but maybe when I move up to black belt and get the striped dobok I will.
  18. thanks a lot guys i'll take all that into consideration, and i dont think fitness is an issue, although i cant bench 300 lbs, i'm no where near that but i do lift weights 3 times a week, and would consider myself in good shape
  19. hey guys, well i'm 19, turning 20 in july (not that my age matters)...anyways, I have done a little bit of martial arts in my time, Tai Kwon Do, Judo, Kung Fu, but none of them really "clicked", well I'm kinda in love with Japanese tradition and everything else Japanese, including the women ...anyways, so i decided to try another Japanese martial art, so I did some research, read online, bought some books, and it seems like karate has really clicked, and feels like something i could do for a long time. Now enough with my life story... There's 2 dojo's that arnt too far from my house, (most are in the suburbs, i live downtown), theres one thats sorta far but reachable, it teaches Goju Ryu, the other is like a 5 minute walk from my house, so id rather go there, but on there website they dont say what style they teach, and Im a little nervous its a "McDojo", it seems legit, looks nice, but you can never be too sure. Now I was hoping to train a style with a little more kicking, i would love to train Kyokushin, but the only dojo is way too far from my house. So i guess what I'm asking is 1) what do you think of this place, http://www.northernkarate.com 2) what are your thoughts on Goju Ryu all help is greatly appreciated
