Orange Belt

Orange Belt (3/10)

  1. Sonny Chiba has a black belt in kyokushin and goju ryu; however, I never knew that also has ranking in ninjitsu.
  2. I picked a jun fan jkd studio that also teaches kali, silat, and muay thai. Kids are given padded sticks instead of practice knives. My cousins will begin this summer since they have many other extra curricular activities right now. I can get free lessons from the jkd instructor for referring my cousins. COOL! Silat looks like it will mesh well with systema.
  3. I just found a cool krav maga/crossfit place for my two cousins! http://sdcombat.com/ I am going to check it out!
  4. I am looking for something geared towards self defense and not sport. Please tell me the advantages of shito ryu, iogkf goju ryu, and wing chun. I think goju ryu is best for conditioning because of all the uncoventional exercises and joint mobility that these karatekas do. I know nothing about shito ryu accept that it is mid range/long range and has 46 katas. Also wing chun has a really awkward stance, but it is really straight forward and deadly. I found two close bye jkd studios, but I think kids are too young to be fighting with weapons. I don't like the idea of my cute cousins using weapons yet.
  5. a 1956 marine corp martial art called american street combat survival or defense360 is karate without katas. ALso an old navy seal martial arts called scars is basically san soo without katas. I don't have first hand experiences in these styles though.
  6. systema's sensitivity drills reminds me of tai chi push hands, but you are allowed to do all types of dirty tricks like pull hair.
  7. The only things I am skeptical about in systema is hypnosis used to make people fall down. That aspect of systema confuses me. ROSS, kadochnikov systema, homo ludens, Ryabko Systema, kaizentao, systema siberian cossack systema are different takes on systema. Homo Ludens is pretty cool. One of my classmates in college used to take classes in it. It is mma mixed with systema.
  8. THe style looks wierd, but its real. It is even more free flowing than jkd. The only thing you cannot do in systema is block since you can only parry or deflect to conserve energy I think. My systema instructor Ken Good is an ex navy seal and he is friends with sonny puzikas ( he was on spike tv's the deadliest warrior spetsnaz vs green beret). By the way Ken Good teaches at san diego systema http://sandiegosystema.com/ and del mar crossfit http://www.crossfitdelmar.com/schedule. I will return back to training this summer after I travel to taiwan and thailand.
  9. I like R.O.S.S. because it is similar to Systema.
  10. Does anyone know if there are any R.O.S.S. instructors in san diego? I checked out the Ameross website, but I couldn't find a dojo locator.
