Wado-Ryu gets my vote - if you're looking for limited contact. Kyokushin is a style with a lot of contact.

In my Karate class, I wear a white gi, exclusively. In Judo, I wear either a white or blue gi. Either are allowed, both are traitional.

Human Weapon was cancelled right around the same time as Fight Quest. It's such a shame, they really were two great shows. Anyone know when season III of "The Contender - Asia" will be debuting? On what channel?

I would. I've been nursing a re-occurring shoulder injury (I've got a tear in my right rotator cuff) for 8 weeks now, and will be returning to both karate and judo next week. I can't wait...

Hi everyone, here is my take on this question: I've heard the reason most Japanese martial arts wear white Gi's is rooted in Samurai lore. The Samurai wore white under thier armor when going into battle because they preferred to be buried in white - thus when going into battle, they were not only prepared to die, they were ready for death. In my studies in both Japanese and Okinawan Goju, we wore ONLY white Gi's, with a school patch over the heart and a U.S. flag patch which was to be worn on your shoulder. In Judo, we wear either a white or blue gi, either is fine. Wearing of a patches is the same as above (In Goju). In Shaolin Kempo-jitsu, any color gi is acceptable, but black Gi's are only allowed to be worn by black and brown belts. Any patch is allowed anywhere on your gi.

I'm looking forward to the release of this film as well. I really enjoyed the original, and I'm curios to see how true the plot of the remake holds to the original... Yes, I know this one is set in China, someone else stated that this should be called "The Kung Fu Kid", I'll agree with that one...

I'm more inclined to watch something that gives us the history of the Buddhist Monks. But I'd watch either, to be honest.

I guess I'm the only one who enjoyed it. I know some things about Musashi, but not much...this docu shed some light on things about Musashi that I never knew. I'll agree the docu was not perfect, it seemed to be a vehicle for Dacascos to show himself, and I also caught the factual error about "Jujitsu evolving from Judo". But I still enjoyed it. One topic I would like to see covered in a documtary is the goings-on in the daily lives of the monks in the Shaolin Temple.

If you're interested, another very good show to look up on youtube is History Channels' "Human Weapon", it's a forerunner of Fight Quest.

I never saw the show, but from what you've written, it seems that's the one... I'll be looking into buying the set on DVD sometime in the near future. Thanks.

I can tell from all of the different topics, this will be a page I will be accessing on a daily basis, and hopefully, will have something to contribute to as well! To Joesteph: Yes, I access youtube regularly, and do know that the Human Weapon series is on youtube. Human Weapon and Fight Quest were the only two shows I stayed home to watch while they were on the air. I have both series on DVD, and refer to them when needed. Too bad they were both cancelled after thier first seasons... A while back, there was another show on English TV (BBC) that had a very similiar base. A journalist would travel to different countries, try out various Martial Arts - and report his findings on the art to the producers of the show. I've never seen this show, But I'd love to. Only wish I knew the name of it...

Thanks all. I used to post on a forum just like this one, on the History Channels web page. The page was for the (now cancelled) "Human Weapon" show. About a year after the shows' demise, the powers that be at HC pulled the plug on the website, and down the tubes went the forum, so here we are...
