  1. Hi Melanovas. Would it be possible to ask your sensei about the Toguchi contributions?
  2. I am wondering about a 2 man renzoku kumite drill based on Gekki Sai Dai Ichi. One person does the kata and the other attacks. Did Toguchi sensei develop this? I have heard that he did but perhaps Miyagi sensei taught it before. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  3. I am curious - I practice Seiryu kata (it is one of Dai Sensei Yagi Meitokus own dojo katas) and was wondering what in what language Seiryu translates to blue dragon? Thanks.
  4. It is a beautiful and complex kata!
  5. The man you are referring to is Higa Seiko sensei.
  6. I have seen several "definitions" for Seiunchin but often "conquer far quietly" whatever that means in relation to the kata. I don't think anyone alive really has the correct meanings or the original kanji.

    SanKyu

A bit off topic but - do you have 2 more steps to get to shodan? And if not wouldn't you call brown belt ikkyu?
  8. My understanding is that "traditional" Meibukan does not have jiyu kumite in it's cirriculum. My club (and my senseis club) has introduced it for it's obvious merits but we don't participate in tournaments (speaking for myself). It is strictly in house sparring and not every class. If you went the Yagi dojo, or Senaha Shigatoshis dojo I don't think they would include it in the cirriculum but I am not 100% on that piece of info. The Yagi brothers may have changed some things since the death of Dai Sensei Yagi.
