Yellow Belt

Yellow Belt (2/10)

  1. What's the best lightweight karate gi for your training?
  2. I'm looking at purchasing a gear backpack to put my gi and some small stuff such as wallet, keys, cellphone etc. I've seen some and i liked some from the high sierra daypacks but i'm not sure if they are proper for putting my wet gi after training. Any thoughts or suggestions
  3. That's what concerns me most, that it will be tough in the begging, having my day job, not having much time to spend with people that i care such as family and friends and the process of bulding up the school, which needs a lot of effort and money. I know that in whatever you may do, starting is always the most difficult thing. I know that the school won't fail cause i've made a very serious and strict business plan in order to make little and carefull steps each time without any high risks envolved, cause we live in difficult times. But the social factor is that worries me and i don't know if it is possible to take that risk right now or in the near future.
  4. Excercices with swimming noodles can help in teaching little fellows some basic stuff with fun and without the danger of getting hurt. It's a great way to make training a game and it will catch kid's attention without losing his interest after a few minutes of boring repetitive drills in the air. Here are a couple of videos with that kind of exercices. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4eV5gAVFWU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjLNmmslsH0
  5. I'm thinking of opening a karate dojo in my town and except from the technical stuff, i would like to know as much information about the other requirements that have to do with bureaucracy.
  6. Many colleges have martial arts classes which are free for teachers and students. You can go ask and join the class until you'll get a balance to your economics.
  7. One day while i was training with my aikido sensei he made a counter-attack with a nice karate-style mawashi geri and i was wandering why do that. This isn't aikido. I then realized when he told me ''Don't think too much, everything is Aikido''. That made me see things with another look. Martial arts have no limits. Teachers shouldn't stop students from studying other styles or arts. It makes you more open-minded in some things and opens new horizons to your techniques. It's something that can make you better in your art. Good teachers will always urge their students to attend classes of other teachers. It's always good to have diffrent influences and new ideas from others.
  8. Of course you will move to execute a technique. Everything you do in every martial art has to do with body movements. Your body must adapt a specific kind of movement to make effective a technique. Try to move with your hara and you will get it as you move forward in your training if you stand in the right possition.
  9. It depends if you are a ''fresh'' zombie. As time passes a zombie's body loses it's solidness, so it is more difficult to execute arm locks and chokes when you have no arms at all . Also you can't choke a zombie because they don't breathe. So fighting a zombie with bjj is a little bit toughy. I, on the other hand have another question to make. Let's say you manage to use jiu jitsu techniques on other zombies. What do you do when a hungry travelling raven decides to have a snack from your brain? Do you forget all the techniques you know and return to the good old bite style?
  10. What's in your opinion the best heavyweight karate gi that combines good quality and price?
  11. I couldn't agree more. I'm not either a belt ranking fan. It's martial art loses her true essence in order to catch up a new rank and become a black belt ''master''. We see the tree everytime but we forget the forest. The only good for a belt is to keep tight this gi on you.
  12. I don't think that there are pros and cons in diffrent styles of karate. It's more about what you really prefer as every style focus on different things. The main core remains the same. Here is a link with some basic information about Karate and his styles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karate
  13. I understand that if you are new to martial arts you need to see certification to begin training under a teacher but if you are training for a period and you have some basic knowledge, you can understand if a teacher worths within 10 minutes.Cerificates, ranks and colored belts were added by easterns in order to expand popularity of their martial arts to the ''modern'' westerns.
