Brown Belt

Brown Belt (7/10)

  1. Kamikaze sell them - bought my eiku from there.
  2. Just for the record, that was written by my instructor, Albie O'Connor. IOKA UK is my association. Oh, and looks like you are all doing well.
  3. I will not be frequenting this forum any more. I feel that the discussions are petty, unintelligent, and uninformative. I need a forum where I can ask a question and people will answer it, not one where it will turn into "you should do Muay Thai". I quite frankly am sick of the members who post the same thing over and over again (BJJ/rules, kata is crap etc), but I am also sick of the comparative styles forum. This seems to be the place for someone who has no idea about the martial arts to ask if Muay Thai can beat Tae Kwon Do - and guess what, the loop returns (see previous sentence). --------------------------- I wish everyone that reads this message all the best for the future. I hope I leave this forum with a neutral stance. Please bear in mind I do not set out to insult anybody. I apologise if I have. I know that this action will make me some enemies, but I also know it will strengthen the bonds with my friends.
  4. Unfortunately, thats what happens in kata competitions nowadays - it depends on the kata, not the person.
  5. Um.....slightly flawed answer, I believe. The tanto itself is a metal bladed 'dagger', with a wooden tanto being exactly that - a wooden tanto. The same for most of your other thingies
  6. (Wait.........whats that..........is Mr Reece actually posting in the "Introductions" forum?.........surely he must have accidently clicked on the wrong button........no.......wait.........he DOES want to post here) Ahem.......welcome Mandy003 - took me a while to realise who this was, but I now know. So.........hello Amanda - see you at the next TradKa event
  7. I agree with Kensai - it was a *EDIT* edit: I took out the rest of the sentence because I can't be bothered getting into another 'arguement'
  8. No, might be, might not be. Politics has nothing to do with it. Providing they teach good material associations are irrelevant. I agree
  9. Right, that clears things up. I don't 'do' spins, you see - hence the reason for my misunderstanding.
  10. I too find eurpean swords fascinating. Personnally, I am a fan of the so called Victorian 'Gentleman' swords. Unfortunately, I only have a french shortsword in my collection. Oh well....time will change that
  11. Tell that to SaiFightsMS........ooooooops........I'm rebelling............slap my wrist
  12. Azure I used to be a Shotokan man, and asked myself these questions many times. You have to bear in mind, however, that kata is just the building blocks of a fight, and should not be thought off as the *exact* techniques. In Pinan Sandan (I did it as Heian), the opening manoeuvres can be thought of as many things - blocks against double punches (would the opponent juts stand there after you have blocked him?) - double arm break (maybe, but arms don't break easily, and chances are u can do as much damage to yourself as you do to the opponent) I like to think of it as a hammerlock technique, with a headbutt to finish them off. I can't help you with any of the other katas.
  13. May I ask what you mean when you say 'spinning'?
  14. An ex-karateka/friend I knew took up Aikijutsu at a good club. I know its not the same as Jiu-Jitsu, but it might be what you are looking for. But, being the blinkered type, I don't know much about other clubs in the area. Take a trip to 'Eddies' (Leeds Martial Arts shop) and have a look at the flyers. There are plenty of Jiu-jitsu clubs there. But beware, better is the man who takes 2 years in an art than 6 months in 4
