White Belt (1/10)

  1. No, it isn't. A student of mine (Tom Levak) coined the term for what I do back in a magazine article roughly 1977. I then wrote a book using that term (American Freestyle Karate: A Guide To Sparring Unique Publications) in 1979. It was published in 1980 and is still in print. Although it is the formal name for what I teach others have used it more as a generic term for American Karate. There is a group in Southeast USA that is AFK as well. The Wisconsin group might be using the book as a guide or might not. I don't know. Yours, Dan Anderson
  2. Nope. That is how I took the question. No harm, no foul. Dan Anderson
  3. Yes. They all started out in the juniors class and worked their way into the adult's group. It is not unusual for it to take 5 - 7 years to get to first dan in my school. Yours, Dan Anderson
