  1. If we have music going it's usually just the classic rock station locally. Sometimes they'll throw on some Jimmy Buffett. If I am working out at home or something, I have a huge mix of music on my MP3. Everything from Muse to Eminem to Johnny Cash.
  2. I'm 28. Sometimes I get on the floor and feel like kicking butt and taking names. Other times I get on the floor and feel so old and crotchety I don't feel like doing a thing. May have something to do with the fact I work with kids all day long and then head to the dojo.
  3. Wearing it outside the dojo how? I can honestly say I have never seen anyone wear it outside the dojo. Now, some of us if we're feeling suprememly lazy will wear our gi pants with regular shirts and shoes to come into the dojo, but we change as soon as we get there. Make sense?
  4. By googling karate forums.
  5. Hello! My current Sensei is Ken Morgan. He's pretty much awesome.
  6. I'm still a beginner, so I haven't had a LOT of experience with kata, but as I am learning I am starting to become more familiar. 1. Rohai. I love this kata. It has SO totally helped me gain more confidence and become better at holding my balance. I have inner ear problems, and practice the stances in this kata help me tremendously. 2. Naihanchi Shodan. Someone said this was easy to learn and hard to master. I agree. The move SEEM simple enough. But I have had difficulty with it. 3. The Kihons. Basics, basics, basics. Without them, you can't have good kata. 4. Okan. I like the power this kata generates. 5. Ku San Ku Sho. I haven't DONE this kata, but I love watching my black belts perform it. My favorite to watch.
  7. As a kyu belt (orange) I am not thoroughly versed in the issues with having jr. black belts on the floor. But this I know...we have 1 jr. bb. He's 13. And I love him to death. I completely respect him, and know that when he's giving me a pointer, correcting my stance, or judging me in a shiai, I can trust that's he's right . He's NEVER allowed on the floor to instruct alone, always with a Nidan or higher. Usually 2 or more. Just my view on it I guess.
  8. HI! My first post outside of the intro forum... I am currently going 3 times a week, MWF. I sit through the kids class, then train in the adults class. When we're gearing up for a tournament or practicing demo, I'm there 4 nights during the week and possibly on Saturdays. LOVE IT. I get as much dojo time as I can.
  9. Hello! My name is Erin. I'm 28, and live in Virginia. I currently train in Shorin-Ryu Karate, along with my 5 year old daughter. I have been in for almost a year, and am currently an orange belt. I have quickly learned that I have barely scratched the surface on all things karate and martial arts. I have also JUST begun weapons training in Yamashita/Matayoshi Kobudo. ALSO, I found out that thanks to my husband's career in the Navy, we'll be relocating BACK to Japan. What a place to train, no? So I am actively searching for a Sensei and dojo in Northern Japan. And that's it. Thank you!
  10. Hello Joel! My husband is a Chief in the active Navy right now. So, I just wanted to say hi!
