White Belt (1/10)

  1. 4 times per week,19.00-21.00 Mon-Fri-> karate Wed->Kobudo Tue-> Sensei's choice!
  2. There is a really interesting site (http://www.karate.org.yu/articles.htm) with many articles,including some small bunkai videos and pictures.
  3. Every kata, has a scenario behind,hidden or not..Follow it as your life depends from that fight..Imagine your strikes or your blocks be real. Your (imaginary) opponent is always better than you,so you must give everything you got in order to survive... If you think that way the power will come naturally
  4. You get me wrong, we do NOT use Shizentai Dachi My previous post was a bit misunderstanding!!
  5. Is there anyone that knows anything about this not so known art?? Every info is most welcome!
  6. I assure you that neither now we use Shizentai Dachi When you write "recognize" you mean don't teach?Or does not recognize their importance as Shorin Ryu kata?? If i remember well, M.Bishop in his "Okinawan karate"(1989) writes that Shugoro Nakazato teaches Iju's version of Gojushiho.. Your info helped a lot!
  7. Thanx a lot,your info is really appreciated! Actually i am member of Suibukan,a school of martial arts (teaching Kobayashi Shorin ryu, Matayoshi kobudo and Suikendo) founded by Sensei Babis Polixronopoulos (a Greek student of Sensei Yamashita). Sensei Yamashita himself visits Greece twice a year at least,but i was always wondering if there was any difference with Shorinkan as far karate concerned (mainly with traditional kata)... Any other information would be most welcome! P.S: Sensei Yamashita born in Japan but since the age of 8 lived in Okinawa so i expected to have Okinawan culture about karate.
  8. But also many masters in Okinawa have lived really long,particularly if you consider the hard times in their youth..Typical examples: Matsumura Bushi (92), Ankoh Itosu(83), Gichin Funakoshi(89),Shugoro Nakazato(90 and going)...
  9. Recently i heard the term "Yamashita Shorin Ryu" and i got confused... Is a new branch of Kobayashi Shorin Ryu Shorinkan??Or independent from Shorinkan?? As far as i know Hanshi Tadashi Yamashita has as only teacher (as far as karate concerned not kobudo) Hanshi Judan Shugoro Nakazato founder of shorinkan... so,is there a difference??
