  1. Ok. I know that BJJ is japanese JJ modified, so it's obvious that it will not be completely different from it. But it's difficult to say that Helio invented nothing at all. That's what I meant when I said "a bunch of techniques". And don't forget that assebling all these techniques and making a system from them is in itself a wonderful invention.
  2. I agree with you but partly. There was a lot of marketing for brazilian jiu jitsu by the Gracie's because of the early UFC events. People didn't understand how a skinny guy like Royce could beat Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn. People always take things as a whole. They compare styles. That's not good. There's no perfect or superior style as they are all made by men. BJJ is not one hundred per cent effective but it has a bunch of techniques that you'll find nowhere else. Some techniques can hurt seriously on hard ground but remember, the goal of jiu jitsu is to to take care of yourself when you're put to the ground and not to put yourself on the ground and try to fight. If you're fighting for life you'll forget about the pain. It's not meant to be the only art that one must know. I think one must know how to fight standing up and also on the ground.
  3. Tell me throwdown, if you had put the guy down after a throw, would you have been able to control him on the ground ? If not, I think you have just done the right thing. Besides, putting somebody behind your back is too much risky I think.
  4. O.K, I said it was a UFC-like fight. At that time I was only a teenager, I didn't know anything about ultimate fighting. Ut was on the news. They said it was in the US. They said the dead guy was a kung fu ka, they showed him in the prelims wearing the black pants. They showed the other mounted on him and punching him real hard. After that, they showed him lying on the mat with a team of medics trying to reanimate him. That' all what I remember. But it's not important. Deadly accidents may occur at any time in that kind of sport. Or maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit... I don't know.
  5. The calm people who don't practice don't get injured, those who practice get injured sooner or later. But that's the price... Better get strong and possibly injured than stay weak and not injured.
  6. Thank you tallgeese, I know that accidents may occur in every combat sport. They may also occur in every possible sport. But you'll agree with me when I say that accidents are more likely to occur in UFC and MMA fights and their alike. Not only because of the limited number of rules but because of the nature of the various submission holds fighters may apply. In BJJ tournaments for example, you'll have a good number of broken elbows at the end of each competition !
  7. Hello, I'm a newbie here so I'm a bit shy. I just wanted to say a thing: I have seen a UFC-Like fight several years ago that ended by an opponent killed. There's nothing in the world to justify this. Training is good to build oneself, to protect oneself but not to kill or to put someone in a situation in which there's a great risk of fatal injury. Just an opinion.
