Yellow Belt

Yellow Belt (2/10)

  1. Ugh, absolutely disgusting in so many ways... I'm just at a complete loss for words.
  2. I honestly do like the bit of fray on my black belt, but I also like when the cuffs on my favorite pairs of beat up jeans start to fray as well... Just my personal general preference really but I just usually like the more worn beat up look.
  3. I was VERY pleased with their service. I placed my order and it was processed the very same day, I received my belt very quickly. I believe the owner's name is Hamid if I remember correctly, he personally responds to all queries you place on the site and answered all my ridiculous questions I had at the time, so if you have any questions for them you can expect a speedy response. I'll definitely use them again in the future.
  4. I bought a tokaido extra wide, extra thick satin (http://kuroobiya.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_9&products_id=63) when I reached shodan. Very nice belt with a great shine to it which I wanted, belt was really stiff at first but after a year of training it has broken in very nicely. Not sure about hirota though I hear they're nice as well. A tokaido satin or silk will fray very easily as it breaks in so keep that in mind if that's something you want/don't want. Hope that helps.
  5. The US Open in Orlando is one of the biggest martial arts expos in the US. Has continuous sparring as well as many other divisions. A few students from our school are getting ready to compete this year, I really want to go to compete as well but the fact that it falls on the weekend of July 4th makes that a bit of a bear... Website is: http://www.usopen-karate.com/ Hope that helps!
  6. Whats open Style Karate?, just curious I never heard of it before. Just means that we're not a traditional style. My master has a background in Goju-Ryu, TKD, Hapkido primarily and to a lesser extent Kali and Kung-fu. Our style is primarily a blend of the first three.
  7. Born and raised in southern NY til I was 16, been living in the Tampa Bay area of Florida for the past seven years.
  8. Hey, I was wondering if anyone could possibly help me and provide some insight. I currently have a century lightweight gi (size 6) and a middle weight gi (size 7) and it seems like every time I want to go up in material quality with century I need to go up a gi size because other wise the legs are too narrow. Anyway I was looking at ordering a heavyweight gi from them (possibly iron man) and was wondering if anyone knew how much smaller their heavy weight uniforms run compared to their middle and/or light weight? Thanks.
  9. To be honest I'd never heard of them before you mentioned them on here... where did you first hear about them?
  10. Very cool, I was a bit skeptical when I first looked at the picture but upon closer inspection it does look like there is a lot of padding on there... For $30 it definitely can't hurt to give them a try. I noticed that there are only two sizes "regular" and "large" and no other descriptors for the sizes... what sizes did you and your buddies get and can you give me an estimation on how big they are?
  11. I'm a first degree black belt in our system and loving every minute of it!
  12. I've also heard that if tapped, a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick could power the country of Australia for 44 minutes... That'll be the only one I do, I swear. I just couldn't resist.
  13. Oh and I checked and you are correct as far as I can tell, I was mistaken about Chuck Norris he was a non-contact competitor. I shall hang my head in shame for my error
  14. I think you hit the nail on the head with why people don't like MMA. It's not traditional, its not that graceful, its a bit coarse and fairly gritty at times. I know there's also a huge rift between the worlds of Boxing and MMA... Boxing officials are not fans of the UFC... You just have to kind of appreciate MMA for what it is, its pretty much the pinnacle of martial arts competition today but it shouldn't be the poster child for discipline or respect.
  15. Well I added something to a cart and after you do that there's a link that says "proceed to secure checkout" and after clicking that it does lead you to a secure site... Still if you feel uncomfortable you're probably just better going with a bigger retailer and getting the security that comes with that.
