  1. The fear of being hit ? If your afraid of being hit you don't have any business training in any Martail Art or even boxing. Proper training in Kung Fu hurts. Until your hands, arms, legs, etc are properly trained, it is gonna hurt and still might. Wing Chun , all Kung Fu styles, Karate, Jui Jitsu etc. teach fighting drills and power development, As a kid growing up we use to " slap fight" all the time this wasn't M/A it's - old american tradition. Street fighting and bare knuckle fist fighting has been arond the USA forever. My dad used to bare Knuckle Fist fight on the street in Los Angeles for $ during the Great Depression. I knew Bruce Lee and some of his students, they were not afraid , they will stand and deliver. BTW we don't cover up with protective gear , we do it in the raw, and rarely have had any injuries, and only a few minors one in the last 50+ years, this is where a well experienced Sifu comes into play. Yes we are aware of liabiltiy and have insurance.
  2. LOCATE A SIFU THAT TEACHES TRADIONAL KUNG FU - A SIFU THAT TEACHES KUNG FU ONLY. IT TAKES A FEW YEARS TO LEARN THE TIGER PROPERLY. IT TAKES A FEW YEARS TO DEVELOP THE HORSE, AND CAT STANCES, AND THE FINGERS, PALM, HANDS, ETC TO BE POWERFUL ENOUGH TO USE. VIDEOS WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO " DANCE". IF YOU HAVE TO TRAVEL SOME DISTANCE, DO IT, GO ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH, TRAIN DAILY, GET A FRIEND TO TRAIN WITH. MAKE A PUNCHING BAG OF YOUR OWN, THEIR CHEAP AND BETTER THAN THESE EXPENSIVE MODERN DAY CUSTOM LEATHER BAGS. HOW DO YOU MAKE A BAG ? GO TO AN ARMY SURPLUS STORE, BUY SOME OLD CANVAS, TAKE IT TO A SHOE STORE, OR UPHOLSTERY SHOP, HAVE IT CUT 10 INCHES ROUND AND 4 FEET LONG AND LEAVE ONE END OPEN. FILL IT WITH RIVER SAND 80 LBS. AND HANG IT. IF NO ONE AROUND YOUR NEAR VICINITY TEACHES THIS WAY OR QUALIFIES, IN TIME YOU CAN.
  3. A very honorable man. He Helped develope and improve Martail Arts through out the entire world. His family is doing an excelent job of carrying on the family tradition. Helio Gracie lived a long fullfilling life and passed as proud man. Proud of his own accoplishments and his families accomplishments, knowing fullwell the legacy will go on. My best to the Gracie family.
  4. the reason people shout is to " let the air out" of their body - holding your breathe is dangerous. The Sensei or Sifu knows your letting it out if you shout. In Kung Fu we don't shout, we exhale loudly enough so our Sifu can head it, breathing exercises are one of the top piorities in Kung Fu. Executing a srike while exhaling in very powerful, this developes and understand inner strength,
  5. It only takes one, if your properly trained for it. Conditioning the fist , palms, etc, knowing where to hit the target, along with a strong stance will do it. This takes years. I don't feel as though people train this way anymore. A well placed kick will also do it. If the fist are strong enough they can easily break bones, palms slaps can rupture ear drums, and groin kicks send the receiver into lala land. This type of conditioning and training takes more hard work than one realizes. It it isn't wise to teach it. It's too dangerous. This falls into Dim Mak styles which were closely guarded and taught to few students.
  6. Looks like a great movie. Thanks. BTW watch for " The Tai Chi Master" with Jet Li -it's a remake of Twin Warriors, coming out on DVD, it's a great one.
  7. Shotokan is tradional. Perhaps you have misunderstood my words. No harm meant.
  8. It is impossible to guarantee anyone can keep any Style 100% unchanged. However if one has been fortunate to have learned from an authentic ancient teacher to keep this traditional is an honor. If this case one should do their best to do so.
  9. Traditional M/A is one in which the art has been passed down unchanged from generation to generation.
  10. learning from video's is not a good way to learn any M/A. However I have seen some Kempo teachers that offered a video couse in which you would learn a form then send a video of yourself back perofrming it in order to verify your progress. " hands on " teaching is the correct method. Attend work shops or seminars if possible.
  11. if your loooking for a video of each movement of a specific Weapon or style ( form) your best bet is to find a credible Sifu and pay to have it made.
  12. Keep training with what you already know. Perfect it. Look for a qualified teacher that will come to you, set up a work shop for all of you together and have these on a regular basis. Or travel to a qualified teacher on a regular basis and continue to learn. My best to you.
  13. In order to be qualified to teach one must have the knowledge to teach.Example: Is a 5th grade teacher qualified to teach the first year in colledge ? Credible teaching is seen in the performance of the teachers students. Some people are born with a natural abiltiy to teach, They are " people persons", give them knowledge and they pass it on with ease and no ego. A " people person" is liked by most everyone. The longer we train in M/A the better we become at teaching all ages. Children, adults, and old people are still people and should be treated as such. If we love people and teaching we belong in it. M/A teachers are faced with a task quite different then most, we teach all ages, we have to deal with all ages and my hat is off to those of us that succeed.
  14. Hung Gar closed fist resembles Shotokan. All the closed fist styles of Kung Fu resemble Karate, they are very similar. The confusion I feel is too many people see KF as animal styles only, which is incorrect
  15. Jimmy Woo's San Soo Kung Fu is a mixture of several Kung Fu styles. I like the fact they put their emphasis on self-defense .
