Yellow Belt

Yellow Belt (2/10)

  1. I do not Spar at all without my Gear. So I wear it when I Spar. I am at 2nd Green Belt now heading into 3rd Green Belt and they are starting to hit harder now. Yes we are suppose to Spar with control but some have a tendency to forget that. I've taken a few nasty hits without the Gear on and let me tell you I never did that again.
  2. I've had a Private Training Session with my Sensei (Sensei Alex 7th Dan) at his home. It was a tad scary at first. But once I settled down I was fine. He's big on Basics. We did straight Basics for 90 minutes. It was a lot of fun. I've also had the pleasure of Sparring with Sensei. Sensei tones down his Sparring to match the person he Spars with. The Girls he takes it easy on and does do a lot of helping and encouraging. My first Sparring bout with Sensei was scary but once I got in there and realized that he was pulling back it made the Match enjoyable.
  3. Has anyone ever been scared in Martial Arts Class? Just wondering here. Sometimes I do. Is this normal? I have been doing Wado Ryu for 3 Years now. And right now I am a 2nd Green Belt. At this Level we are doing a lot more Advance things. Which is great I love the new challenges. We're also learning how to do "Break falls". As we are doing Jujitsu Applications which involves "take downs". I am sort of okay doing these, but not fully. I have never been scared of Karate but last week boy oh boy. One Technique would involve one person doing a Front Kick and the partner grabbing the leg, laying the other hand across the chest and sending the person down to the floor. I just could not do this, nor have it done to me. Fran
  4. When I first started in Karate and my passion began to grow I was looking through Websites/Forums/Chat Sites. A place where I can join other Martial Artists with the same passion. And I stumbled upon this place. And here I am. I don't come around much. But I pop in when I can.
  5. My Style Wado Ryu we don't use weapons. Our weapons are our Hands and Feet. Although when I do enter the Brown Belts I will be using these Wooden Knives as Defense Practices.
  6. Wado Ryu Karate Practitioner Gal here, been at it for 3 years come Feb 2011. Greetings my fellow Female Martial Artists. Fran
  7. In our Club the Higher Ranks always take it easy on the Lower Ranks. They often do one on one teaching while Sparring. When we Spar we respect each other and we do not hit too hard. Sometimes it does happen but a quick reprimand takes care of that. Now when my Sensei fights a lower Rank he lets the lower Rank hit and he just Blocks whatever you throw at him. And often tells you what you need to do.
  8. Last week was such a week for me. I signed up for the Grading scheduled for June 12 and was having so many doubts, anxiety, panic, and fear. That luckily for me one of our Black Belts saw me in distress and talked to me. In the end I decided to hold off on Grading. Besides I need a bit more time perfecting my Techniques before I am ready to enter the Last Green Belt Level. So I am still a 5th Kyu.
  9. Has anyone heard of or tried Karate Training in a Swimming Pool (Training Pool)? I've see Naihanchi done in a Pool, and tonight in Class my fellow Karateka mentioned about doing the Kicks in a Pool, especially the Ura Mawashi Geri. I guess it can be done if she mentioned it. I am just wondering if anyone has tried it and knows what other Karate Drills could be done in a Pool? Fran
  10. I would watch a few Classes first. Ask questions. If they offer Gree Classes try them out then decide. One sounds like a McDojo so I'd say Goju Ryu Good Luck
  11. Mine is done in front of Sensei We do the Basics, Combinations, Kicks as a Group. We do Pair Works We then do Kata solo Then we do fighting.
  12. I do Wado Ryu Karate and I can do Kihon Kata Pinan Nidan Pinan Shodan Pinan Sandan Pinan Yondan Pinan Godan And I am learning Kushanku right now.
  13. Try doing Kata with hands only. Standing in one spot. Or just the feet. I see people practice Martial Arts in local Parks here does not bother them.
  14. I will be going for my last and final Green Belt next Saturday on June 12. And then I can begin work on Brown Belt. Am I nervous? Yes. But am ready to tackle this head on.
