  1. My last ever competition was 3 years ago and like that the girl kicked me in the mouth with a side kick, I thought I broke my jaw.

Even though I was hurt I still wanted to fight in the next style of sparring - point systems semi contact.

I haven't fought in a competition since, but that isn't the reason for it.

It's because I got my eyes fixed with laser treatment 3 years ago and still weary incase someone punches me to the face.

  2. Try doing several repetitions of ax kick both outwards and inwards, this usually loosens up the joints really good.

Also try and do some movements pivoting on the ball of your foot as this helps when doing roundhouse kick as it allows the hip movements and kick to fall into place a bit easier.

  3. I honestly think that either Holland or Germany will win.

Didn't see the Barcelona - Chelsea game last night as I was watching the Villarreal - Rangers game instead.

Rangers outplayed Villarreal and were unlucky not to go through to the last 8.

  4. It allows you to use a number of techniques in which your opponent will attack against you, giving you a wider range of counter attacks or defence moves.

Kata allows you to be precise in certain movements and show off a bit however, when sparring some techniques aren't produced as presteen as they would when performing kata.

  5. Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Blackwatch: i am in the south lanarkshire area. i am currently a member in a dojo in lanarkshire, have been since 2004 (see my signiture)

are you from scotland? do you know any good dojos/instructors?

id be interested to know who you know. id like to hear your opinions of scottish karate instructors.

    I am from Glasgow.

What dojo do you train in?

I train down at Prestwick on a Tuesday and also train in Glasgow on Sundays.

I am an instructor being a 2nd dan for Shukokai Karate, I was trained by Robin Bryce, 6th Dan and still am.

However, I do know Sensei Gerry Fleming who trains in the east end of Glasgow and a few others.

  6. Vic Charles has to be the most famous name in Great Britain to do with Karate.

I had the pleasure of meeting this man at the Scottish Karate Championships last year at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow.

My boyfriend introduced to me and we stood and had a chat for a good while too.

Tommy Morris is another who is well known in Scotland for setting up the Kobe-Osaka in Glasgow.

My boyfriend was trained by him. Never met him but have heard a lot of stories about him.
