White Belt

White Belt (1/10)

  1. I'm not sure if it is good. I have yet to look into it enough to really know if it is good or not. It is one of 4 styles I am considering. I already started a forum in the beginners section asking what style I should do. I've just had trouble finding info about wado-ryu and started this forum for that purpose. It is definitely a possibility though.
  2. Thanks for all of the good info on wado-ryu. I had trouble finding good information about it. Now I know. Thanks
  3. Thanks for the info. I never realized jiu-jitsu could take that long! Now another question I've heard judo has gotten rid of the competing to belt up requirement. Is this true? If so is there a average set time frame?
  4. What can you tell me about Wado-Ryu karate? Is it a useful martial art (they are all useful in some form I think) but does it translate to everyday situations? What is the belt order? How long on average does it take to rank up in and how long on average does a blackbelt take to EARN?
  5. On average how often does one legitimately progress to the next belt level in judo. Also on average how often does one legitimately progress to the next belt level in jiu-jitsu?
  6. I am new to these forums. I like martial arts and did tkd when I was younger. I was always good at it but was young when I took it and lost interest. I am looking to get back into martial arts but I don't know what style. I have 4 choices. I can take wado-ryu karate, bjj, judo, or tkd (all twice a week.) I weigh 190 and am 5'11, I am 17 years old. My goal is to major in criminal justice and hopefully someday work as a DEA agent. Which of these would help me the most on a resume and what is the typical time it takes to get to the lowest level of the highest rank (ex...1st degree black belt) in each style? (I want something I can progress fairly quickly in but EARN it.) Other information: I am athletic. I am a calm easy going type of person. Aggression is not something I can turn on and off. I did a year of wrestling but it did not come to me easily. I wasn't dedicated to it though and I think I'd have to work harder at a grappling martial art as opposed to a standing but could be dedicated enough to do a grappling one now. When I took tkd I was 10. It was a small place but I was the best in the kid class and it came easily to me. I also have taken boxing since then (loved it but the place closed) and it was natural to me. I currently lift weights and I am in above average condition. I am pretty healthy although I do have one shoulder that sometimes bothers me if I put a lot of pressure on it. I think I'll spend this summer getting in better shape then start one of these martial arts. Which one should I do? What are the aspects of it and what are some things I can do to prepare myself for it?
