Orange Belt

Orange Belt (3/10)

  1. Out of all the choices, sword is my favourite with bo coming in a close second.
  2. You know how you can build chi and store in the dan tien? Well, can you use it up? In healing and/or fighting?
  3. You were doing really well until this part: Using your body has it's advantages. I think both ways can be useful in their own places. However it appears you think boxing punches are tense, which is wrong. A boxing teacher will tell you the exact same thing you just said: and yes, you use your whole body to throw a ball, you just don't tense it all up, like you seem to think. I'm sure it's the same in baseball and football. I am not an expert in those, but I can tell you that it is the same in soccer. When you first start out you think striking with all your power and swinging your leg as hard as you can will make it go harder and faster... that is wrong. When you learn the proper way to kick you are not tense at all and everything is fluid. Same can be said for boxing. I love wing chun, but I also love boxing. ... oh and I love soccer too
  4. Yeah, it's like sand in the water and stuff ... Ever stand on a beach like that? The sand shifts under your feet when the water comes in.. or at least I remember it doing that... it's been a couple years since I've lived close enough to the ocean to go to the beach
  5. I said I would try and diffuse it. I have failed if he turns violent. If you hit first, anyone watching could say that you are the agressor. If the person happens to be a trained fighter, then it may be a good fight. If I happen to lose: I get my ass kicked, train harder, and next time I won't lose. There is nothing wrong with having confidence in yourself. I am not 'afraid' of losing, it will only help to motivate me further, and willlearn from my mistakes to make me an even better fighter. It's a slight risk I'm willing to take in case this ends up going to court. That one moment where you let him go first may be very helpful to you. Like I said, he'll have one, so he better make it good (during my 0.5 seconds of being on the defensive).
  6. A whip-chain is about 3-4 feet long, I am not good about judging distances, and then there is a rope javelin which is about 16 feet long. I think that if you have extensive weapons training: staff, sticks, nunchuks, whip-chain and rope javelin (like Jackie Chan), you will be able to use anything as a weapon, like a towel , or a shirt, or even raw dough (okay, that's from a movie )
  7. I also know people who are IN Iraq right now, and this is NOT what they want.
  8. He won't hit me in the throat first And I won't be on the defensive. Just because he is the first to attack doesn't mean that I will be on the defensive. Maybe for his first strike, but he better make it good, because it will be his only one.
  9. I'll always wait for the other guy to go first, but from there on it's offensive. I'll always try to diffuse the situation first. If the other guy gets violent, I assume I've failed and react with enough violence to stop him.
  10. Anyone can do Kung Fu, though there will be some things you probably won't be able to do, btu you can make up for it with others you can do better. If a fat guy is in the right stance, they can be pretty damn solid. They also havea lot of weight behind punches, and throws, etc.
  11. I don't think they are too bad, if you train reasonably. I practice with some very hard plastic (acrylic I think) nunchuks. They could easily break a bone, or crack a skull I'm sure. I've never done anything more than hit myself in the elbow. It hurts like hell, and I can't bend my arm for a while, but I've never gotten anything worse then that. Once you learn the basics, which you can practice slowly, it would be very difficult to hit yourself anywhere other than the elbows (maybe knees). There are foam practice ones as well, but they are way too light, I don't really recommend them, a friend filled the inside of his with silicone to make them a little heavier, but they were still pretty light.. Staff is fairly good weapon to start with, and sword isn't bad either. Nunchuks are grea too. I'd really love to learn Rope-javelin and 9-section whip chain (I have one, but practice with an extension cord, because I'd be likely to kill myself otherwise).
  12. So practicing drills with groin kicks is an acceptable replacement for sparring with groin kicks?
  13. At my Kung Fu school, for black sash testing you had to fight all 6 sifus (they are from different areas around the province, and all 6). They would then test your abilities. I don't think a 13 year old would be able to defend themselves against adults effectively, even if they have all the skills required. I think Junior BB is a good idea, and that when you are 16 you should be able to test for a juniour, and when you are 18 you should be able to test for an adult one. I'm not discriminating or jealous of teens, I recently just was one.
