Many Tae kwon do dojangs to not teach the use of weapons although there are some styles of TKD that do train and incorporate many traditional weapons used by other martial arts into their practice.

We have had staff (bo) and nunchaku training at our school offered as special training "worshops". Training with weapons does give the students an understanding of body dynamics, alignment, and how to generate power and increase reaction speed.

There are no weapons in the traditional TKD curriculum. That doesn't mean that there aren't TKD teachers who teach weapons. But there are plenty of TKD teachers who started in another art, crosstrain, etc, and have brought those weapons in from another system.

Most popular are probably the nunchaku, short stick, staff, and sword. In some places Haedong Gumdo (Korean equivalent to Kendo/Iaido) is taught with TKD.

Many Hapkido folks teach the cane and rope. Many Schools teach both.. etc.

I'm no longer posting here. Adios.

mt class teaches weapons

in the ancient days where the background of TKD came from they practiced weapons, but as the art had to go into hidding and became a sport, it lost the emphasis on weapons

yet the styles that went into hidding and trained in the mountains away from spectaters still practiced with weapons, yet this style is not as widely known as the sport based style of TKD
